Psychiatrists define delusion as a “fixed false belief that will not change despite evidence to the contrary”. And they have an exception in their medical journals: “this applies, except in the case of religion.” Seriously, special exception! Why? If the belief is irrational, as religious belief certainly is by definition, then why can’t we say so? Why are we being inappropriately polite to a debilitating cognitive impediment?

I love this guy
We thank The Atheist Experience Show host Matt Dillahunty for taking time to chat with us recently about his thoughts on religion, debate, and coming out as an atheist. Check out the interview and share your thoughts. @AtheistExpShow @Matt_Dillahunty @writerrausch1 (Listen to the interview audio on our YouTube https://youtu.be/OXweJgJkk3U) By Andrew J. Rausch Matt Dillahunty was raised in a Southern Baptist family and was, for many years, a devout Christian. After serving eight years in the Navy, he felt he was compelled by God to minister, leading him to study and investigate the Bible (and other subjects he found to be related) more closely. These studies ultimately led him down a path to atheism. “After the first couple of years, reason forced me to acknowledge that my faith had not only been weakened by my studies—it had been utterly destroyed,” he has said. “The thoughts, writings, and wisdom of people like Robert Ingersoll, Voltaire, Dan Barker, Richard Dawkins, Farrell Till, and many others, helped free my mind from the shackles of religion without a single moment of despair.” Since that time, Dillahunty has become one of the loudest and most recognizable voices in American atheist activism. He has hosted the webcast cable-access television program The Atheist Experience since 2005. He was the president of the Atheist Community of Austin from 2006 to 2013. He was also the host of the live Internet radio show Non-Prophets Radio, and is a founder and contributor of the counter apologetics encyclopedia, Iron Chariots. He travels the world speaking as part of the Secular Student Alliance. He frequently debates noted Christian apologists. He and fellow atheists Seth Andrews and Aron Ra, known collectively as “the Unholy Trinity,” traveled to Australia to speak in 2015. #atheism #atheist #Christianity #God #heaven #hell #indoctrination #religion #science #Texas #UnholyTrinity #AronRa #SethAndrews #Australia #debates #religiousdebates #skeptic #AtheistDebates #apologetics #TheAtheistExperience #RichardDawkins #formerChristian #Bible #SouthernBaptist #God #Navy #DanBarker
