I've been working on the look of my main species (armanda) for the past few days. Since they're mammals, it's obvious they should have external ears. I wasn’t happy with the previous head design, because I want the jawline to be visible and look natural – it can’t be hidden behind a gill flap. At the same time, the ears can’t be too big, they’re not dogs, so should be small but firm, not too flexible or mobile.
Still, I feel kind of nostalgic about how they looked years ago.
But I like second concept too.
