This was a bad idea. Kaaras knew it. He knew it the moment his damn coworkers had tried talking him into it. They always did this, they always made him go out and try and meet someone. Ever since his divorce, and because they knew he was still hung up on his ex wife. Which, that may be true, but that didn’t mean he had to get suckered into speed dating. Argh... the embarrassment.
The officer was dressed nicely, nicely and no sign of a uniform tonight, a simple dress shirt, black jeans and boots. Some of his buddies on the force had come with him, moral support, they’d called it. Also, some of them were just as single, so he didn’t feel as bad, but still. He wasn’t very good at this! He was rather awful, in fact.
How did people get to know someone when all they had was a minute to chit chat? He wasn’t going to spill his whole damn story to some stranger, and he didn’t want them to do that to him either. It shouldn’t be forced. Friendships were important, and if they turned romantic, then they turned romantic...Â
It was safe to say that Adaar was awkward, quiet most of the time, even if polite, and shy with almost every woman he’d spoken to tonight. He felt... pathetic. It was definitely the right word. He just didn’t want to be here!Â
So, finally, it was time to have a break. He was contemplating not returning and just sitting at the bar for a while with a glass of wine in his hand. He watched the band play, listening to them. It was pretty, pretty music and... pretty people. It made him a little sad and a little lonely.Â
Eventually, when his partner (police partner that was), tapped him on the shoulder, he declined to go back, and instead just watched the band play. He particularly got a little caught up with one of them. The violinist. She was pretty. He didn’t mean to stare, and when their eyes met, he instantly looked away and turned back to his drink. Tonight was not his night...Â
