I think we as creators severely underestimate the value of what we do. Whether you’re an artist, writer, memer, editor, gifmaker, ticktoker, youtuber, etc, you do not and will never know the true extent of your view count and success, one because numbers can only count so much, anons are a thing, and because someone way not even have an account on your preferred platform or websites, but they still find a way to view your content. There’s so many platforms at that, where people share creative things (hopefully with permission) and you may have fans across the world and never know it.

Characters with mentors tend to be very ambitious and aim to please their teacher. They want to show all the best parts of themselves in hopes that they might get some sort of reward. However, it doesn’t always work out this way in reality. 

When we have someone who is older or wiser than us, we study the way they live their day to day life and what they practice in order to better their skill, whether it be art, sports, or fighting... whatever the story calls for. After watching someone be successful for so long (sometimes with no payoff for yourself), you can become jealous instead of studious. This reality slows us down.

We should include more characters who experience this with their mentors or whoever they look up to. Jealousy can only be suppressed for so long. It can be really shocking for two individuals to come to terms with the fact that one of them has something that the other may never have or have a hard time getting. This can create tension, eventually crumbling that relationship between friends or the bond between student and teacher.
