He shuffled down the stairs, keeping his hands up over his head, pulling down his hood. He watched out of the top corners of his eyes as Aria bounded off again; he wasn't sure whether to feel relieved or annoyed at the fact she wasn't waiting for him. On one hand, he could wallow in self pity on the stairs longer. On the other hand, they were supposed to be...partners. Partners for what? He didn't really want to find out - whoever was in charge here was capable of some pretty powerful magic, and if any more events here were to be influenced by this magic he didn't really want to be part of it...
...or did he? As much as he was afraid of this powerful magic that gripped this strange castle-made-of-ice-but-not-really, he was, at the same time, highly intrigued by it. He wanted to see what it could really do..
...and, just as well, he was Aria's partner. As much as they seemed to fluctuate between good-terms and bad-terms, at least in his own eyes, they were partners, and it wouldn't just be rude to vanish into the Vales night - it would be downright blasphemy! He was a bard, for Falias's sake! It was in his job, his heart, his soul to support people, and, whether she really liked it or not, who knew?, it would be against his entire nature to abandon Aria now...
Feeling...only slightly better, he stepped onto the ground floor again...how long ago had he first come through into this hall, greeted by the rumble of a Fireball being launched? Now, however, it was full of people, standing around a giant, long table that stretched down the entire room, stocked full of all kinds of food from all around Erinn. Amidst the crowd that stood around it, he easily spotted Aria, and, at a different part of the table, Milo the elf and his still really, really tall partner...Slothie, was it. At that moment, he realized those three were the only three out of the entire crowd he knew.
...was that a good thing or a bad thing...? He supposed that was probably a bad thing - he had a bad feeling that some future event at this strange party would force people to fight each other, and it would be a good idea to know who his enemies where before it came to that point.
...though that would mean he would have to start randomly talking to people...and that almost scared him more than the idea of having to fight random people, especially after his entire scene on the previous floor.
But he had to support Aria!
He took a deep breath, slowly slipping the hood from off his head and heading straight into the crowd. After a bit of careful weaving, he found himself nearly face to face with a man who, in the simplest terms, looked a bit like a bounty hunter - dressed in near complete black, with a kind of trench coat and even a feathered cap. He was holding a few breadsticks, and seemed very intent on a bit of fried chicken a bit a ways down the table.
Well, now was a better time than never, right?
Quickly, more before he could change his mind rather than before his...person of choice?...could get away, he reached out and grabbed - gently enough so he didn't cause any harm (like that could happen anyways) but firm enough to get the stranger's attention - onto the stranger's arm -
OH CRUD WHAT WAS HE GOING TO SAY HE JUST GRABBED SOME RANDOM GUY'S ARM -
"U-um...h-hi-!" Gus stammered as fast as he could without looking too weird...if that was possible anymore. "I...I was w-wondering where on the t-table you f-found those breadsticks b-because they l-look really g-good and I wanted to h-have some and..." He broke off, unsure whatever to say next but probably looking even more stupid as he stood there in silence with his mouth gaping slightly open in...paralyzed confusion? That was probably the best way to put it...
