(6/5/15) It’s been a crazy few months. First week of May I had surgery to remove the metal in my right femur (thigh). I’m so glad I did. It felt like the metal was scraping my insides, I guess the tendons, whatever it was rubbing against in there. It was a quick surgery, I was home 7 hours after I’d left, already walking, very slowly. At first it popped every step I took, but that’s gone and there’s no more pain just from walking around my house. A week later we went to Argyle high school to tell our story with Shattered Dreams. Remember when they came to your school? Showed the mock crash and had someone tell their real life story… Yea, me either. Oh, I remember that they came, vaguely remember cars mock crashing on the football field, but I was immature and just excited to be out of class, hanging out with my friends on the bleachers. This was way different. These students were respectful, a lot of them participated, and even better, they were completely silent and truly listened. We couldn’t take 5 steps before a student walked up and hugged me, thanked us for our story, told me how glad they were I survived. One even pulled Shea aside and let him know how well our story impacted him and his thoughts about alcohol in the future. I can’t tell you how much all of this meant to us. We want to continue going to schools and doing this, but now I’m afraid no other student body is going to live up to the maturity and respect these kids had! Last weekend my sister and I took an impromptu spontaneous road trip to Austin to see our best friend that lives in Cali, who was there for a friend’s bachelorette party. They let us crash their weekend and steal time with our MeMo. I got back hurting really badly. I don’t think there’s anything I can do about this, just have to be active more and more until my body is used to it and maybe convince Shea I need a massage membership ;) I go back and forth on the edge of pain/regret and positive thinking/gratefulness. It’s a fine line and I like to think I’m doing ok. :)
