there's something else thats been bothering me. what exactly IS an "area", or at least how would you define it [and ooc is it a parallel of the backroom levels? how do those relate?]. furthermore, what is the difference between an interior and exterior? any theories on the nature of interiors? how do you traverse between interiors and exteriors? the way you describe them seem very interesting and id love to know more.
on a slightly different note, any theories on the origins of seemingly man-made structures, like the hotel the spume were found in or Gamezone?
An 'area' is a human categorization that is meant to differentiate different regions in the Far Plane that have several unique characteristics compared to its surroundings. In truth, many areas overlap with each other and do not have defining starts and ends. An easy example to give of this is Ecobrutalia, which has only recently been deemed an area due to its size. In reality it is a transition between Brutalia and the Greenhouses.
The difference between an interior and exterior area comes down to whether or not it has a sky. Interiors are enclosed spaces like man-made rooms, but furthermore there seems to be a lack of space outside of them. Outside of windows are what is dubbed a white hole, something that does not allow for anything to penetrate it or for any heat to transfer. Exteriors either do not have this or they are so far up in the sky that they are non-visible.
It is impossible to date certain materials in areas that resemble man-made structures at this time. Because of this it is unknown why the Far Plane appears man-made. It is impossible for it to be artificial due to the sheer scope of it and the nature of its existence. And so it comes down between the chicken or the egg. Did our inventions come first, or did the Far Plane?
[Areas are sort of like levels in the Backrooms, but as opposed to being their own "pocket dimensions" they can be freely traveled between each other without clipping. So they're more like.... an open world game instead of a game with different levels.]
Whey you get your cat a present and it turns out they like the box it came in more, there's no great mystery why: what most cats like better than anything is to be in an Area, and a box is an Area. If you're looking for a gift that your cat is guaranteed to love, get them something that defines an Area.
