For the final day of National Architecture Week of 2016, we’re going to infinity and beyond. Whoops! We mean we’re going to hope the force is with you. Nope, still the wrong sci-fi. We’re going to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. Ah, there it is! Our Enterprise Counter Mounted Support is clearly named for the Starship Enterprise, sometimes known as the USS Enterprise, the main mode of transportation - aside from teleport, obviously - in the T.V. show turned movie series Star Trek. Throughout the years, the Enterprise has morphed from a NASA-style glorified airplane to what we think of nowadays as the sleek adventurer captained by the exceedingly hot Chris Pine as James T. Kirk. Our Enterprise Support Bracket, much like the modern Constitution-class USS Enterprise, is slim and sleek, featuring futuristic angles that would be at home in a clean, contemporary setting. #Archweek16 is almost over, and we’re bringing it back home for the fifth day. The Vue Elevated Countertop Support was inspired by a building in our very own Queen City. On the third day of #archweek16, and Thomas Jefferson’s birthday, we will be highlighting our newest bracket, the Chevron Low Profile Support, which is inspired by a common architectural design that shows up in a variety of buildings, bridges, sidewalks, etc. throughout the world. The chevron, a repeating pattern, is also known as an architectural fret or a repetitive design consisting of narrow bands or straight lines. The Greek key or meander is a well-known architectural fret, often seen in sidewalks, columns, ornamental building design and more. The Ming fret, inspired by Chinese styling, is less used in architecture but makes a common appearance in other types of design. Let us know where you see architectural frets in your day-to-day life! For our second day of #archweek16, we’re traveling from Pasadena, California to the bayou. The Chasset Decorative Angle Bracket, a recent add to Federal Brace’s Low Profile Line, is named for the Shangarai Chasset (meaning Gates of Mercy), a nineteenth-century synagogue based in New Orleans. As part of the burgeoning territory of Louisiana, the Shangarai Chasset was initially housed in a blacksmith’s shop, but through hard work and the determination of the congregation, was able to build their own structure in the mid-1800’s. The building was located on N. Rampart Street, and, as it is the single oldest synagogue in Louisiana and among the oldest in the United States, has no recognized architect or designer. Rather, its founders and rabbis are recognized, Jacob Solis, Manis Jacobs, Albert Marks and a few others. The Chasset Support features a fleur de lis, a symbol of perfection and everlasting life, and also a design frequently associated with New Orleans.
