Nari has been crouching at the foot of Douxie’s bed all night, waiting for him to wake up. When he finally does, she skitters across the sheets to kneel by his face, grinning as she presents him a small, sloppily wrapped box. It’s almost childish, with too much tape and a stick stuck to it. Unwrapping the gift reveals the true present however — a tiny music box that plays a song from Douxie’s youth. “I wish you felicity on the anniversary of your birth,” she says with a smile. — arcane nari
Douxie, let it be said, has never been much for mornings. Dreadful things that want to steal away your warmth and dog your limbs and mind when you try to slip from the dreaming world to a waking one. His stubbornness about waking up is well known to those who hang around him for any length of time. Archie not trying to rouse him is a hugely appreciated highlight though suddenly having the face of Nari in his own makes him balk in surprise and leads to him smacking his head on the headboard while his poor brain tries to process the suddenness of it all. With a winced ow he blinks, then again.
“So-sorry, guess kinda made me jump.” He tries to pull his hands free from the covers while sitting up properly in bed before quirking a brow at the mish-mashed wrapped box. He's not entirely sure why he’s being ambushed awake for it.
“What you got there, something for me?”
When Nari answers, he lets out a contented hum complete with a thank you. With a great deal of care, despite the slightly excessive use of sellotape because we don’t need to teach her to tear everything open, he endeavors to find out what might be inside. The container is placed aside and he takes out the little music box which looks unusually ornate, delicately carved too with natural airs. While a bit reluctant to touch it lest it somehow breaks by his own clumsy fingers, it is given a poke anyway and this unintentionally manages to catch the switch.
“It’s beautiful,” he whispers before going wide eyed when it opens up with a tick tick noise. It sits there for a few seconds of silence before it begins to play a very old melody that immediately causes a feeling of nostalgia to dig it’s claws deeply into his flesh. He remembers it well enough, played on the streets during festivals or events by strings and voices celebrating whatever was happened at the time.Any of the reasons escape him but the music, ah now that he always adored.
The wizard looks up at her again, still holding it on one palm with the other almost shielding it away. While he knows she might not appreciate a hug you can tell he really wants to because damnit that’s how you show appreciation for something this important, this precious. He’s close to happy tears and there's a massive smile on his face.
“Thank you so much. I absolutely love it.”
