Fordo aesthetic moodboard
«I am the reinforcement!»
Shared Midnight
Prompt: New Year's Tradition Wordcount: 2.3K Pairing: Captain Fordo/Reader Rating: G AO3 Link
Note: Ok, so I didn't make the Advent challenge in time, @merlincmgirl, so I made a New Year's story instead for Captain Fordo. Thank you for inspiring me to craft a short tale. I've desperately needed to get back to writing. Enjoy!
Note, Part Deux: It's my life's mission to ensure that @yukipri's vision of Fordo with a mohawk becomes canon.
@arc-77 is spotted across the room
The room buzzed with quiet chatter. A tink of cutlery against porcelain plate, or a quiet laugh, interrupted the monotonous rhythm now and then, only for the sounds to subside and the hum continued. Dinner was wrapping up.
Vi wore a navy blue cocktail dress that hugged her figure and swept down her back. Her tendrils were pulled away from her face in a braid, adorned with sapphires that had been gifted to her by her client. His name was Damian Lannin— a rich donor of the Empire, who often funded the military or contributed to the local police force. He was a lonely man, with two divorces, and he had taken a liking to Vi. He liked how ‘exotic’ she was, and he had strange fascination with her tendrils. Though he had his quirks, he often held important galas for important people. There was always a plethora of information.
These kind of events drew a certain crowd, and Vi had become proficient in hiding her force signature. Unfortunately, by dulling her own presence, it cut her off from the Ocean Spirit and her senses were severed. Due to this, she didn’t catch the familiar presence. Instead, she spotted him the old fashioned way when her eyes swept the room and she froze.
Fordo.
He would be a complication.
He wore a white uniform that was similar to the ones they wore at the Imperial Security Bureau, which would mean trouble for her. He had spotted her too, likely before she had noticed him. She didn’t exactly blend into a crowd of humans.
They had met once when she worked at the Zillo Beast. It had been an amicable meeting and her guard had slipped, but he didn’t hesitate to remind her that he could kill her if he was ever given the order. Mercifully, he had slipped away. She didn’t see him again.
Well, until now.
Unlike their last meeting, Vi was seasoned and jaded. She held no illusion about who he was and what he was capable of. He would kill her if an altercation occurred, and he was much more practiced than her in the art of combat. She had to make sure that wasn’t on the menu tonight.
She watched Fordo as she laughed with Laninn and toasted his generosity. She draped his shoulder and smiled, hiding her own pounding heart. The catering staff began to clear the plates and people migrated out of their seats to mingle. Laninn was pulled into a conversation about the game that aired the other day, and Vi slipped away with a playful smile and a trailing hand along his shoulder. She gracefully swam through the crowd, coming face to face with Fordo.
“Hey,” a moment of familiarity, as if she were talking to an old friend. Then, the game was on, and she slipped into her persona. “You look lonely over here. I thought I would say hello.”
it’s been what feels like a millennia since they’ve had to take a moment to wait to fully heal. it has been millennia, in fact. the realization makes revan laugh, which cuts off sharply into an irritated hiss as they stress still-forming muscle and tissue, which turns into an awful gurgling sound as they expel all the blood that had settled into their stomach. like a drunken fool they are hunched over themself in the filth of a side alley, head swimming and ears ringing as their body stitches back together under faded and dingy lighting and in the silence that only comes after uncontrolled violence.
“ how embarrassing, ” they mumble to the blood-soaked dirt beneath them, “ to be laid low by amateurs. ” a weapon is only as useful as the one that wields it, and a mishandled grenade in the hands of a random fool can be far more dangerous than any perfected blade. “ fear makes even the would-be innocent a threat. and everyone in the place seems afraid. ” a miscalculation on their part. in hindsight, they should’ve went with more armor ; a friendly face and open hand has reached the limits of their use. better yet to —
|||| “Don’t give these nobodies any sympathy.” ⸻ @arc-77
they shake their head and quickly regret the movement. “ that’s not what i — ” revan goes still. “ you’re angry. ” they hone in on his tone like a bolt of lightning to a grounding rod, casting aside pain to turn bright and curious. this development was far more interesting than the fates and motivations of their paltry opponents, or the state of revan’s own repairing body. “ i don’t think i’ve ever heard you angry before. ” irritated, most definitely. even at them. but the arc trooper controls his temper like a whip, only ever cracking it in a brief moment as warning to direct the errant and cumbersome. they never doubted there was something roiling beneath, but to see it was another thing entirely.
there is a brief, selfish worry that they've disappointed him. that the misshapen, mortal thing they are once again falls short of whatever legacy was made in their wake, and it's in the pieces of themself they never recovered that contains the difference between the two. revan quashes the thought just as quickly as it appears and laughs again, the shake of their shoulders already easier to bear on their chest. “ as i've said — i heal quickly. ” this might be the first time he’s seen it, but he still knows. ( he’s still angry. ) they don’t trust themself enough to turn their head to him quite yet but reach out instead, fingertips ghosting across his helm as they wind their hand around the back of his neck where panels meet his bodysuit. “ give me a few more moments and it shall be — ” they have to stop to wheeze again, and they can taste blood still in their mouth, “ as if nothing happened. hardly my best moment, i know. ”

Arms tucked across her dampened jacket, the young woman reclined back against the pockmarked wall, barely sheltered from the steadily pattering rain. Cast off from every heavy drop plopping onto the unpaved street, dirt splattered across the dark leather of her well worn boots. A chill was slowly snaking its way into her garments, invited by the wet and her lack of action. Yet still, she waited.
Hazel gaze carefully scanned the unmaintained street, a typical small city on a typical outer rim planet, remaining in the painstaking balance between appearing too watchful and failing to completely observe. Jaina not only searched for her contact, but also the faces of those that she knew might be in the vicinity who she would hate to meet here and now. Boredom plucked at the corners of her mind, but she couldn’t give into it, not yet.
Unusual armor slipped into the corner of her eyes, drawing her attention instantly. A mercenary, his posture and gait gave it as much away as his signature and attire. He nearly appeared… Mandalorian. Not quite, but nearly there, a rarity to be sure. Stepping off the wall, she knew she needed to assess. ❝ Hey there, ❞ her tone took on a cheery, welcoming tone, ❝ Any chance you’re looking for a job? ❞

The smaller lithe form, armored to the teeth in scorched durasteel, backs away on heavy heel. Heart pounds in her chest, memories flooding so painfully back to the surface as the crackling red blade of her saber springs to life. In defense of some non-existent sleight.
"Away! Get away from me!"
