and i get the sentiment behind "tracing is an actual art tool" on a professional level, but i think that trying to say "everyone should be allowed to trace whatever and use bases for this once a year 31 day long art event" is perhaps not the own you think it is?
yes. tracing is used in professional work occasionally to speed up production times on comics/manga and animation. that's for professional industry stuff, though. not for your passion artwork for a random person on one website.
i think a lot of artfight "rule discourse" boils down to people trying to claim that artfight are "elitists" because they're trying to make sure all users have access to the same/similar tools/ability to rate their attacks, and also that everyone is drawing each other's ocs, so people get mad they cant use their specific cheat or draw their specific fanart they want to draw.
