Child killed, Araniko highway obstructed

8 Nov, Banepa: A minor died on the spot in a road accident at Tamaghat this morning. The deceased has been identified as three-year-old Ram Bahadur Kunwar, said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mukunda Marasini. Arniko’s Departure for China

Impressed with Nepali craftsmanship, the emperor of China invited Nepali craftsmen to China in the thirteenth century. A seventeen-year-old youth named Balabahu led a group of eighty artisans to China. It was this same Balabahu who later became famous as Arniko. The picture shows Balbahu’s farewell ceremony. A large crowd has assembled to watch the historic departure. The king’s men are waiting to hand over the letter and gifts being sent to the Chinese Emperor. Arniko’s father is giving him advice, while his mother’s face betrays anxiety. Near the doorway is Balabahu’s grief-stricken young wife. The sagun and other auspicious items for the ritual of departure have arrived.
