i’ve been working on my dnd setting so long I forget why I did little things. Like, I gave the Goblins a patron god who was directly interested in their well being and gives them all direct blessing, a small fire spell in order to keep them safe. I didn’t want to fall into the trope of the weak being enslaved by the strong, I wanted goblins to be a morally ambiguous and clannish group with deep religious ties and a merchant network that functioned through a system of tunnels that they knew better than anyone else. I wanted them to be a group that might experience racism but not one that should be literally enslaved. I armed them against that and I still wanted to fall into that trope because I can never think of a worse horror than slavery.
