you once reblogged this post which pointed out that The name for Ragna’s sword isn’t Blood-Scythe it’s actually Aramasa. In mythology, the Worochi-no-Aramasa was the sword used by Susano’o to kill the Orochi serpent. In BlazBlue, Orochi is the inspiration for the Black Beast. (so its fitting that terumi ( susanoo) and hakumen who uses the susanoo unit is antagonistic towards ragna) Yet ragna ( who was the blackbeast who wrecked the world was ragna who was forcibly transformed by nu-13 who merged with him and fell into the cauldron sending the blackbeast back in time in the original timeline ) kills Susano’o with it. its ironic but terumis technique naming-motif is snakes, which also parallels his nature that nods to how snakes are negatively portrayed in most forms of mythology and media. Hazama his former host vessel follows this motif as well. Hazama is shown to have an innate love for boiled eggs, swallowing them whole after shelling them. It is symbolic of his parallels with snakes, who perform a similar action in their predatory mindset, and fits into his overall theme of snakes and serpents and he his eyes, which are gold with snake-like slits for pupils. ) In nod to this as a contrast Hazama’s crest being akin to the Ouroboros, Terumi’s crest instead resembles a caduceus, or “herald’s staff”, which consists of two snakes coiling around a winged staff. In Greek mythology, it was carried by Hermes, a cunning trickster god who could freely move between the boundaries of worlds as an emissary of the gods and conductor of souls into the afterlife, which overall nods to Terumi’s nature in both his personality and the fact that he was originally a god-like being. Terumi also has his Distortion Drive Orochi Burensen, which like Hazama’s Orochi Burensō, is a nod to the Shintō mythology beast, the Yamata-no-Orochi which is portrayed as either a eight headed snake or an eight headed dragon. Hazama’s Drive name, “Ouroboros”, refers to either a serpent or a dragon. The Ouroboros is usually represented by a snake biting its own tail, symbolizing infinity or a never-ending cycle. This image is also shown in Hazama’s crest. His Overdrive is called Jörmungandr, which references the Jörmungandr of Norse mythology that grew large enough to bite its own tail, signifying the worlds end if it ever let go. Coincidentally, the symbol of Jörmungandr looks somewhat similar to the top half of Hazama’s crest, Ouroboros (and the aura surrounding Hazama also moves in a slow cycle). Tying into this, Hazama and Terumi also have other snake-based references: His other Distortion Drive Mizuchi Rekkazan (蛟竜烈華斬), references the jiāolóng/mizuchi aquatic deity of Chinese origin, which is also usually used as a Japanese term for either a rain dragon or hidden genius. so its fitting that terumi gets killed by the aramasa which references the sword which susanoo killed yamato no orochi since terumi references to snakes and his distorion drive references the yamato no orochi despite being the god susanoo so this could be used to say that ragna is more like the real susanoo than terumi with him being the fake susanoo who is actually more orochi ragna being more susanoo than orochi and and terumi more orochi than susanoo
But also: Ragna fits the role of Susano’o with his relationship with Celica. In the original myth, there was the choice of sacrificing the maiden Kushinada to Yamata no Orochi. While with Ragna, they were debating whether or not to use Celica as a sacrifice for Kushinada’s Lynchpin to stop the Black Beast.
Susano’o was also the more battle hungry of the three siblings of Izanagi (after cleansing his face from the impurities of the underworld), who were also of two brothers and a sister (although I think some sources also list Tsukuyomi as a female), with the sister being Amaterasu (referencing Noel/Saya being part of The Origin, who resides in the Master Unit).
