1998: Do you have any favorite remixes/mash-ups?

Television Rules the Nation/Crescendolls still gives me chills and I’m still pretty fond of the Indo Silver Club/Mothership Reconnection mash-up that I made. That counts, right?

2011: Do you own any Daft Punk merch or memorabilia?

Yes! I have an official hoodie, sweater, belt buckle, split-helmet t-shirt, split-helmet pin, homework pin, Lose Yourself to Dance poster, and I did have an official daft punk mug until my dad broke it. I’ve also got all the albums on CD and vinyl, most of the singles, The New Wave original press vinyl, Alive 2007 deluxe edition on CD, Alive 2007 vinyl boxset, Interstella 5555 on blu-ray, daft punk:unchained on blu-ray, the Human After All remixes album, Musique Bonus DVD edition, RAM japanese special edition with the bonus track Horizon... I could go on...

2012: Do you have a favorite interview quote?

2015: Do you have friends who like Daft Punk?

Song of the year?

“Something Comforting” by Porter Robinson. I lost so much this year - family members, concerts with friends and my students, a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and milestones I can’t get back. It hurt. I went really dark places and it took awhile to get back. That song helped me process that grief. It still brings me to tears, especially the ending. I need that album when it comes out.

(Also the whole “DISCO” album by Kylie Minogue. There isn’t a bad track and it fills the Daft Punk sized hole in my heart for now.)

TV show of the year?

I haven’t kept up with a lot of TV honestly, but one constant has been Jeopardy. It’s something I’ve watched since I was a kid and it’s calming. It’s helped keep me level and it brings back happy memories with my great-grandma. When Alex Trebek died, it felt like losing a family member. It’s bittersweet to watch it now, but there’s still a lot of joy there too.

Best month for you this year?

Honestly December. I was able to do a virtual concert with my students, which was something I couldn’t do in June. I got through a year of hybrid teaching nonsense with my sanity intact. It feels good to look back at a semester’s worth of work and see that it was worth it. I grieved so hard over losing a semester with my spring students; being able to give my fall kids something they can be proud of felt good.
