Envy. New Zealand. 3616. Medium sized, dark red mixed with gold. Firm texture. The bite gives us a 6 on the crispness scale, which leaves something to be desired. Fairly juicy, and quite sweet. A high chewability rank keeps this apple from entering Red Delicious territory -- a lower score here might accentuate the lack of crispness. The low crispiness score is compounded by a mediocre 7 on the flavor index. I don’t want to say ‘mealy’ about the Envy, but it’s venturing problematically close.
