you sat pressed flat against the passenger door of satoru’s white sports car.
your forearm rested on the window sill as you watched the blurred neon signs of tokyo bleed into long, smeary lines. the highway was empty enough for him to treat it like a personal playground, his tires chirping every time he changed lanes without hitting his blinker.
"oh, come on. turn those frowns upside down, guys!" satoru shouted over the thumping music.
he pushed his dark sunglasses down his nose, his unnaturally bright blue eyes flashing in the rearview mirror as he looked at the two of you. "we are going to the biggest event of the summer. you should be thanking me for rescuing you from a boring night of doing laundry."
"i actually wanted to do my laundry, satoru," you groaned, pulling your jacket a bit tighter around your shoulders.
the faint smell of your lavender detergent was completely losing a war against the heavy vanilla air freshener swinging from his mirror. "now i’m going to spend my night smelling like melting tires."
"hey! it builds character!" satoru scoffed, throwing an arm casually over the steering wheel as he took the exit ramp toward the industrial docks with a sharp, stomach-dropping lean. "peace and quiet is for old people. we are young, we are beautiful, and more importantly, i am about to smoke the competition tonight."
from the backseat, shoko let out a dry, rattling sigh. she didn't even look up from her phone, her thumb lazily scrolling through her feed in the dim light of the cabin. "i told you, if we just locked the apartment door and pretended we weren't home, he would have eventually gone away."
"i would not have gone away!" satoru protested, deeply offended.
the scenery outside shifted rapidly, leaving behind the bright shopping districts and moving into the dark, heavy silhouettes of old cargo warehouses and stacked shipping containers. but as the car drew closer, the darkness completely vanished. it was replaced by a sea of artificial lights.
hundreds of cars were lined up along the docks, their hoods popped to show off polished engines under vibrant strips of neon LED lights. the air grew thick, heavy with the sharp, chemical stench of smoke, raw fuel, and cheap, warm beer. thousands of people were there, their voices competing with the roar of revving engines.
satoru slowed the car down as a track official flagged him through toward the exclusive driver’s pits.
"alright, this is as far as i can take you two," satoru said, his playful demeanor shifting slightly into a focused, eager grin as he looked toward the starting line. "go find a good spot near the concrete barriers so you can see me win!"
"try not to die," shoko said dryly, opening her door.
you followed her out, stepping into the humid, chaotic night air. the moment the car doors shut, satoru revved his engine and tore down the restricted lane, his white taillights disappearing into the thick haze of the staging area.
left behind in the open walkways, you and shoko were immediately swallowed by the sheer scale of the event. the crowd was a living, breathing entity, shifting and pulsing with an aggressive energy.
"let’s try to find a spot away from these people," you yelled over the noise, reaching out to grab the sleeve of shoko’s jacket so you wouldn't lose her.
"agreed." shoko replied, turning toward a slightly elevated viewing platform near the edge of the warehouses.
but before you could take more than three steps, a sudden, massive roar went up from the front of the track. the announcer’s voice boomed over a cracked, distorted PA system, declaring that the main event was about to begin.
almost instantly, a violent surge of hundreds of people rushed forward from the parking lots, desperate to get to the front lines before the tracks were completely closed off.
the sudden momentum of the crowd slammed directly into your side, and a group of rowdy, shouting spectators pushed right between you and shoko. their heavy shoulders forcefully broke your grip on her jacket.
the crowd swept you backward. you tried to plant your boots against the ground, but you were completely helpless against the current, caught in a suffocating wall of pushing elbows.
but she was already gone, completely buried beneath the sea of moving people. panic, sharp and cold, began to flare in your chest. you couldn't see over the shoulders of the tall men around you, and the air felt heavy, choked with exhaust smoke and sweat.
suddenly, someone behind you gave a violent shove to get a better vantage point.
the unexpected force sent you stumbling forward. your foot caught on the jagged, crumbling edge of a low concrete barrier, and you lost your balance entirely.
you gasped, tumbling over the barrier and falling hard onto the dark, open asphalt of the active racing lane.
before you could even scramble to your feet, a pair of blinding, high-powered headlights sliced through the smoke, pinning you in their glare.
the screech of high-performance tires echoed through the canyon of warehouses—a violent, piercing scream that made your ears ring. the sheer heat radiating from the grill of the approaching vehicle flushed your skin.
you froze, completely paralyzed like a deer in headlights, your breath catching in your throat as a massive, matte-black dodge charger slid to a brutal, aggressive halt mere inches from your knees.
the engine thrummed like a trapped, furious monster, a deep, guttural growl that shook the ground.
through the windshield, you could make out the sharp silhouette of a driver. the heavy electric window slid down with a sharp, mechanical hiss.
"are you completely deaf, or just looking to get crushed?" a harsh, rough voice barked from inside the car.
the tone was a low, rumble that sliced effortlessly through the ambient noise of the track. "get the hell out of my lane before i use your skull as a speed bump."
"i-i'm trying!" you stammered, your voice trembling as your legs felt like lead.
you frantically looked back toward the crowd, but the concrete barrier was completely blocked by a solid wall of spectators screaming his name, holding out phones, and flashing cameras. there was literally nowhere for you to retreat without being trampled.
you scrambled backward on your hands and knees, but you weren't moving fast enough.
above the track, the staging lights—the christmas tree—began to flash a slow, rhythmic amber. the race was less than sixty seconds from starting.
inside the charger, the man let out a curse. he clearly didn't have the time to waste waiting for an idiot to crawl off his tarmac.
the driver's side door swung open with a sharp, heavy click.
a man stepped out into the neon-lit haze, and the entire atmosphere of the track seemed to drop. he was tall, broad-shouldered, and practically radiated a terrifying, predatory authority.
dark tattoos curved up his thick neck and lined his jaw, and his pinkish hair was slicked back, exposing a face twisted into a look of pure, unadulterated irritation. his crimson eyes locked onto you, burning with absolute disdain.
he took two long, menacing strides toward you, his leather racing jacket creaking with the movement.
before you could even register his proximity, his heavy, tattooed hand shot forward. his fingers wrapped around your wrist with an iron grip.
"hey! let go of me!" you gasped, your heart hammering violently against your ribs as he yanked you clean off the asphalt.
with an effortless, terrifying display of strength, sukuna pulled you completely off balance.
he threw open the passenger side door of the charger, caught you by the waist with his free hand, and literally hoisted you off the ground, shoving you unceremoniously into the deep leather bucket seat.
"stay still, and don't touch a damn thing," he ordered.
before you could even scramble to a sitting position, the heavy door slammed shut. you lunged for the interior handle, pulling it frantically, but the electronic locks with a definitive, heavy click.
you watched in horror as sukuna rounded the front of the hood, his stride calm and dominant, before he tore open the driver's side door and slid into the cockpit beside you.
the interior of the charger smelled heavily of expensive leather, cold cologne, and the sharp, chemical tang of fuel.
"let me out!" you demanded, turning in the seat to face him, your voice cracking with genuine panic. "you can't just do this! this is kidnapping! let me out of the car!"
sukuna didn't even spare you a glance.
his tattooed hands gripped the steering wheel, his fingers flexing against the grip as he settled into his zone.
a dark, wicked smirk slowly spread across his face, his crimson eyes locked onto the empty stretch of asphalt ahead. he slotted the heavy shifter into first gear.
"buckle up, brat," sukuna murmured, his voice dripping with dangerous, dark amusement as he slammed his foot onto the gas, revving the engine until the entire frame of the car shuddered. "you're coming for a ride."
