A room that I somewhat developed previously: A pale, white washed room, a square skylight that allows the room to be bathed in a soft glow. The four sides of the room are two layers of glass. The outer most layer is thick and has a matte coating of white paint to create a dull light. The inner layer of glass is for writing. The walls of the room become a scratchpad for any kind of writing, calculations, etc. The door is behind me is made of a heavy, aged rosewood. The frame is sturdy, edged almost like a painting. The door is beveled two even squares as embellishments. There are lights along the outer edge of the room at the top, hidden away from view like lights from chinese restaurants. These turn on at night, when the darkness inevitably seeps in. For night writing, the lights between the glass walls will turn on and illuminate the room.
For furniture, there is a wooden desk, kind of like an architect’s desk- slanted, with a small classic lamp, one of those green topped, brass coated lamps. The desk faces the center of the room, a comfortable tweed sofa/office chair tucked in. There is a sofa on the right side, one you could recline on, with arm rests on either side but a long area for you sit, where you can swing your feet to either side, if you wished. The room is maximized for productivity, not rest.
There’s a sleek, ebony piano that sits neatly near the back of the room, leaving space for you to wedge by if you wanted to write on the wall. The keys are slightly yellow, but pristine and new. The felt that lines the back of the keys is a dark blue.
There’s a water boiler that sits on a small coffee table by the sofa for hot tea. There’s some cookies in a tin and some nice flower printed napkins. By the writing desk there’s cabinet type drawer thing that has polished knobs and a smooth flat top. Top drawer has my baron fig notebook and a black fountain pen. Second drawer has a stack of envelopes and a list of addresses for my close friends. Beside it is a roll of stamps.
In the bottom drawer I’d have manuscript paper and a metronome. Perhaps a stack of my favorite pieces in a notebook, along with a dictionary and a thesaurus.
