valentine’s  day  was  evie’s  favourite  day  of  the  year.  not  only  was  it  a  day  to  celebrate  love,  it  was  also  a  day  to  celebrate  evie  —  her  birthday.  her  friends  were  planning  a  surprise  party  later  ( evie  knew  everything )  but  she  had  the  whole  day  to  see  what  kind  of  mischief  she  could  get  into.  mother  dearest  said  she  had  a  present  for  evie  though,  and  she  couldn’t  upset  the  evil  queen,  so  she  tracked  regina  down,  grinning  when  she  found  her  in  the  castle.  “for  me?”  she  feigned  surprise,  greedy  little  hands  reaching  for  the  wooden  box  —  identical  to  the  one  in  the  stories,  though  she  hoped  a  heart  had  never  been  inside  this  one.  she  opened  the  box  and  found  eighteen  individually  wrapped  heart  shaped  chocolates  in  blue  and  red  foils.  a  perfect  gift.  “these  aren’t  poisoned,  are  they?”  she  teased,  arching  one  dark  eyebrow.  then  she  set  the  box  down  and  went  in  for  a  hug.  it  was  the  type  of  embrace  she  spent  her  whole  live  craving,  the  kind  only  a  mother  could  give.  “thanks  mom.”
