Week 6

Week 5

This is the final run through for our app:

I screen recorded the app on my laptop, and ran through the app. I like how it ended up as, some pages I wish were better and looked more professional, but for only a two week project we made an app that works really well. My favourite page is probably the slang dictionary, its so fun, and I like how I made it look like it was typing slay into the app. I did that with the other chats as well, it made it seem as if someone was actually typing, making it more realistic.

Some of the fonts didn't match the ones we used which were Loos and Paralucent, it did kind of annoy me because it was fully put together.

The final presentation was okay, but I did think there was a bit too much text on there. I liked the design of it, I thought it was really cool with the patterns, but maybe it would've linked better to our app if they were the same green instead of blue. The actual presentation went well, but I did think that all the text should not have been read out, and I kind of wish we went through a practice round before the final one. When it got to the bit I was talking about, I felt like I had to rush through because the research part took a while to get through.

The video is what I had done on the Wednesday. It was just the basics of how the app would work. It was actually pretty easy to do. There were a few things on how it works that needs to be made smoother. The whole app needs to be properly designed as well.

Week 4/5

For the app I made a lot of the pages and did a lot of the actual prototyping. I also made the basic app on the Wednesday sign up session, I used what the others had done on the Monday workshop and put the basic pages XD.

My group got on well, but I think when it came to the actual work, I did quite a bit of it. Sophie made a start on a page on XD, but she didn't have a laptop at home that XD worked with, so she did the presentation. Issy and I worked at home on XD, but I still did most of the prototyping bit. I also redesigned some of her pages to look a bit more modern and put together. Daisi came in for the Wednesday sign and started the design, but she wasn't there on the Thursday to help the whole group out.

Week 4

I started off by looking at how small the icon for an app is (29px x 29px) I then got the font I wanted, with is just a clean bold text that is easy to read. I wanted mainly text with a bit of illustration because of the article I found, it said older people generally look more at text than icons. I then started experimenting with colour, patterns etc.

I did some initial sketches at the back of my sketchbook, just get down ideas. I first thought of how to connect the words, then family trees and generations. I liked the idea of a tree, because it can be like a family tree but also branching out and connecting. I also did some Dna sketches just to see what it looked like, but it would look like a medical app instead of social.

Week 3

I did some quick older generation research, I wasn't able to do much as I was in Cardiff half the week at a competition. I found this interesting article about how different generations use apps and phones for different things. My generation is more on TikTok, Instagram etc. and the older generations use apps for healthy living, shopping and travel.

Week 3

We started by using the Miro board to put all our ideas on and get a general idea on what we want to do. We work well as a group and are on the same page. For next week we want to have researched older and younger generations, name ideas, logo and illustration ideas.

I looked at what certain colours mean and chose them based of that. The yellow represents friendliness, green is life and nature, blue is stability and wisdom. I felt that each generation would be sharing their wisdom so blue is a good colour to use, along with the green, as our family tree is part of nature.
