What causes the appendicitis?
The cause of this condition can be, in many situations, the organ cavity obstruction due to lymphatic proliferation stimulated bacterial or due to a small foreign body (seeds).

Classical symptoms can be:
Dull pain near the center of upper belly that becomes painful and moves to the lower right belly part. Usually, this is the first sign.
Losing appetite.

Swelling of the abdomen.
Fever not very high.
Other symptoms:
Dull pain or sharp anywhere in the upper or lower of the belly, back or rectum area.
Painful urination.

Constipation or diarrhea.

How is the diagnosis of appendicitis done?
The diagnosis of the appendicitis is very complicated. Because the symptoms are often vague or highly similar to other diseases, such as bladder or urinary tract infections, gastritis, intestinal infections and problems of the ovaries.
For a correct diagnosis, you can take the following tests:
Abdominal examination to detect inflammation.
Urine test to exclude urinary tract infection.
Rectal examination.
Blood tests to see if the body is fighting against an infection.
How is it treated?
The standard treatment of the appendicitis is by surgery, called appendectomy. Before surgery, antibiotics are taken to help the body fight against peritonitis. Normally, a general anesthesia is made and the appendix is removed through an incision of a few centimeters or by laparoscopy.
For 12 hours from the surgery you cannot stand or walk. Usually, you can do your usual activities after 2 or 3 weeks. In case that the intervention is made by laparoscopy, the incision is smaller, in the recovery time shorter.
After the intervention, ask for doctor’s help if you have:
Uncontrolled vomiting.
Pain in the abdominal area.
Dizziness and weakness.
Blood in the urine or vomit.
Pain or redness in the incision.
Fever.
Pus in the incision.
Can appendicitis be prevented?
There is no way of preventing the appendicitis. However, appendicitis is less frequents for people who consume food rich in fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
