she’s a journalist working for a cultural/political publication based out of boston. she’s coming to the island on an assignment to write a piece exploring the mythic nature of the island & the lifestyles of those searching for soulmates there. fully intends on returning to her home in boston once she gathers enough information to write her report, but ehhhhhh. we’ll see what happens.

has a picturesque idea of what her life is supposed to be like, and works towards it tirelessly, even when achieving her goals doesn’t seem to satisfy her. she’s sort of chasing a false dream and isn’t gonna realize that she doesn’t actually want this life until a different option falls at her feet.

she’s ambitious, outspoken, and action-oriented. used to having to reject her feminine side in order to be seen as competent among her male peers, she pushes down any parts of her personality that would make her appear weak. wants people to think she’s unbreakable and independent but is actually extremely dependent on other people to validate the image she’s created for herself. 

because of her reluctance to express her emotions, she ends up forming very shallow relationships. might have a lot of friends, but none of them really know the real maya. 

Savannah “Sav” Vera

She’s been dancing since a young age but instead of making that her profession, she chose to teach dance instead

Her parents got divorced when she was younger and since then she’s had some commitment issues

She can come off as rude and overly sarcastic but once you actually get to know her she’s a complete dork 

She’s really indecisive and tends to be completely unpredictable 

Victoria Rose

  - Her parents died in a car crash around the time she was eight years old, her older brother became her sole guardian. He raised her with the help of an old family friend.

   - Through that family friend she met another girl her age and she became best friends. Though Victoria was often a little cold, growing from her brother taking care of her instead of her parents. 

    - High school came and went in a blur, she dated. She kissed. She made love. All with the wrong people, she only kept one person with her. Her old family friend. She earned the title ice queen and rightfully so. She didn’t let some people get close enough

   - During the time after graduation her world turned upside down. Victoria woke up in a ditch outside of her city with her friend no where to be found. 24 hours later her best friends body had been found and the police had escorted her brother, the only family she had left, away in handcuffs.

   - Her brother was found guilty in the rape and murder of her best friend. He fought hard, denying everything, even had a solid alibi. But because of the way he was portrayed to the jury, a bum who had no life but taking care of his sister, he was convicted to life in prison. 

    - Afterwards, she had no friends, no family and no where else to go. She became a Defence Lawyer through hard work. Defending all those she deemed innocent, though her clientele was limited for that reason.

she’s a complete paradox, like, she wants to be loved but doesn’t at the same time, everything about her contradicts’ itself because she’s really quiet but then ten seconds later she’s a little ball of anger literally blowing up at you

she had a relationship with her art teacher her senior year of high school *cough*aria*cough* but yes, she was already eighteen and she’s a boss ass bitch because she broke up with him when she graduated, because she was going away for college, and she didn’t think it’d be fair to either of them if they were tied to a long distance relationship

she’s now an editor at a publishing company. her job is literally to basically just sit there and read all day every day, make corrections to books and proofread and all of that. this trip is kind of a mini vacation for her because she’ll be on a tropical island, but she’s totally still going to be working because she absolutely loves reading (hence why she became an editor in the first place)

she comes from a pretty average family, she has a brother and two parents, but she was more on the upper middle class side of things- like- they lived on a small (emphasis on small, mind you) estate, where they kept a few horses. nothing insane, but they had a few and horseback riding is something she’s been in love with since she was a little girl, up to this very day even

-Madeline was left alone for hours at a time with little to occupy herself except her surroundings. She found herself fascinated with the world outside

-Tried to run away from home when she was 13 years old. Got caught and brought back.

-Ended up in a foster home at the age of 14 when her mother was deemed too irresponsible to care for her.

-From then on she dreamed of seeing the world, of being able to capture the beauty in the world and not the horrible things.

-She traveled from place to place, never sticking around long enough to meet Mr. Right.

-doesn’t know that she believes in soulmates. Her parents were supposedly soulmates, and they ended in disaster.

-only ended up in Aphrodite’s cove because she wanted to capture pictures of the island, more so than the happy couples.

James was born and raised in Seattle, Washington.

He attends Columbia as a Business-Econ major as his parents have always planned for him. He comes from an incredibly wealthy family who expect him to do well and prepare himself for taking of the business from his father.

He hadn’t really been allowed a normal childhood after the age of ten.

He’s never had a lot of free time, which means that when he can find it, he makes full use of it and ends up somewhere ridiculous as a result.

James came out when he was sixteen years old, on an impulse after his parents tried to set him up with a girl in hopes that they might connect on a deep level and it didn’t work out.

Actually has an interest in writing, but he knows his responsibility and he won’t disappoint his parents on the business front.

He has however written a few short stories that he’s had published anonymously.

Believes in soulmates, but also feels that his soulmate could end up rather miserable if they stuck around him and his lifestyle.

I’m still messing around with him, but here’s what I’ve decided on (for now)

Born third out of six (i know, s i x) children, it wasn’t expected that Sean would become the runt of the litter, but being the most reclusive and least charismatic of the bunch it just sort of happened.

Sean left his home town at age 25 to move across the country in need of an escape. He hasn’t been back since.

He had a hard time dealing with his sexuality growing up, but now (as a grown-ass man) he’s making strides in accepting who he is.

He’s always had knack for numbers, and now works as a business manager at a financial firm managing other people’s money.

jake was born in berlin, germany, and moved to texas when he was about 15 years old. he enlisted in west point two years later and quickly got a high ranking job in the army because he’d been fantastic at it

he used to be a soldier, like, top notch kinda guy, made tons and tons of money off of it, so he’s fairly wealthy as it currently is, and now that he’s retired, he’s not really concerned with finding a new job, so he’s a mechanic because he loves cars

his car is his baby and so help you god if you even scratch that thing he will DESTROY you

he used to be married, but they got a divorce after she caught him cheating on her, because he’s definitely 100% not a faithful guy, like, you can’t trust him not to fuck around on you

he’s mildly an alcoholic? like he says it’s just because he’s german, but he’s probably always drinking

he’s afraid of commitment because his family had a foster kid who was about four years younger than him, and like when he was about nineteen he was just head over heels in love with this kid, but he went off to the army and when he came back his foster brother had grown up and was engaged and everything

he came to the cove bc after he got divorced, his foster brother had as well and he thought that it was finally his chance to be with him, but that just did not happen, so now he’s hoping to find his soulmate to distract him from that failed relationship
