Questions:
1. Where would you like to travel to, all expenses paid?
I'd love to do a tour of the UK and Ireland. My dad was a history buff (he even wrote a book about Celtic influences) and we were going to take a family trip to the UK when I was in high school. But then he got sicker, so we never went.
2. Most embarrassing moment?
Okay, so when I went to the Bahamas last year, we were at this huge tourist beach right on the ocean. I had consumed several piña coladas because they had this deal that if you bought a coconut, they would crack it open for you then fill it with ice and unlimited cocktails all day. Well, after a few hours, I had to pee really bad and there were absolutely NO public restrooms anywhere so I tried to go into the water to pee but the waves were MASSIVE (I've grown up near the ocean, so I know how to keep my balance in waves, but this was ridiculous) and knocked me over before I could even get deep enough to "relieve myself."
I kept trying to escape back onto shore so I wouldn't drown but I kept getting knocked face first into the sand over and over. Unfortunately, I was wearing a strapless swimsuit, which didn't stand a chance against the pull of the current, and I ended up completely flashing the ENTIRE beach full of people, including the five guys in my group. It wasn't even like a sexy boob-poppage. My suit was all twisted and pushing my boobs in different directions and at awkward angles. Not to mention I was COVERED in wet sand and seaweed. Also my hair looked like a deep sea monster.
So yeah, moral of the story, strapless suits are great for pools but not for beaches.
3. What is your favorite book and why?
Oh no. You're awful. Honestly, who asks a question like this? But I guess it has to be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone. Every time I read it, I just feel like a kid again. It makes me less cynical somehow. It's like that old friend that you could go years without seeing, but will always mean the world to you because they are so much a part of who you are.
4. Favorite literary character and why?
I would say Daenerys Targaryen from A Song of Ice and Fire, because she is fierce, loyal, caring, intelligent, feminine, and driven.
(SPOILERS) In the books, she is essentially abused by her brother, sold into marriage at thirteen, almost assassinated, pregnant by fourteen, miscarried the child, burned her husband's corpse, mothered three dragons, and waged war on the slaving industry, liberating several cities all while still a teenager. My favorite moments from the entire series are when she's interacting with her dragons. But in book five she has really lost herself. I still hold out hope for her, though. There are two more books yet to be published.
5. What song have you had playing recently?
Kisses and Cake from the P.S. I Love You soundtrack. It's all instrumental, but it's just lovely.
6. Best moment of your life so far?
When I got promoted, I guess? Or my twentieth birthday? I also had a really great time in the Virgin Islands in January. It's hard to say, because I've struggled with depression and anxiety most of my life. I tend to either block out memories entirely or I almost exclusively focus on the negatives.
7. What is your current occupation/school level?
Currently unemployed :(
I was assistant manager of a store but I got laid off, and I haven't had much luck finding a new job. Although I did get a call yesterday for an interview at Colonial Williamsburg, so fingers crossed!
8. You’re on a deserted island as an exercise for a month…what three things do you bring with you (besides the already provided for necessities)?
My dog, Buttercup (yes she is named for the Princess Bride, don't judge me)
An e-reader with unlimited books/battery life
Vodka for disinfecting purposes, really
9. Favorite composer/band/singer?
Ehm, I have no idea. This is such a difficult thing, because there isn't any one musician/musical group who I prefer over all others. I do like Beyoncé, Adele, Imagine Dragons, and Taylor Swift. But if I had to listen to only one person's music for all of time, it would probably be John Williams.
10. What is your favorite colour?
I go through "color phases." Or that's what I call them. It's subconscious at first but then I realize that everything I've liked or bought lately has all been the same color (often in pairs). Right now, I suppose I'm at the beginning of my "black and tan" phase but I was recently into navy blues/deep violets. Previously it was charcoal, then before that it was teal and purple, and before that it was mint and white.
11. What computer/operating system do you have?
My (not so) trusty old MacBook with Snow Leopard
