Sorry if you felt uncomfortableā¦.really, that wasnāt wanted. And youāre right, itās a developmental disorder, still itās in the box of āpsychological dosorderā tho. Iām not saying itās good or bad, it is what it is. But if youāre wondering if itās considered as a disorder, yup. Check out the dsm 4 revised version for more information. :) (Also maybe thereās a linguistic difference between disease and disorder that Iām not aware of).
i dont really understand the difference but if ur interested i found this which explains it. but basically to me at least disease has a negative connotation when talking abt mental illness and developmental disorders as it indicates thereās something wrong with ur functioning that needs to be fixed and until it is fixed youāre not normal or able to function. whereas a disorder is more,, u have a different system of functioning that is not the same as everyone elses but is not dangerous or bad. so. i feel like disease is not a correct way to describe autism. i have a professor who specialises in asd tho so i could easily email her and find out, if youād like a professionals opinion? also just fyi the dsm5 was published 4 years ago so the definitions couldāve changed since then.
