After Sabo’s return to the Revolutionary Army, Sabo is greeted by Koala and Hack. Koala and Hack notice a sad face on Sabo and ask why is sad. Sabo responds with how he remembers an old childhood friend before he met Ace and Luffy. Hack asked who this old friend of his? Sabo responds “His name was Jellal.”. Sabo explains how he and Jellal are both children of higher standards and higher status. Sabo is the son of a world noble who he disowned and Jellal is the illegitimate son of a celestial dragon. Sabo didn’t have many friends growing up until he met Jellal. Jellal and Sabo became close friends after they met and spent a lot of time together, until Jellal would be executed for being the son of an infamous pirate named Edward Newgate(Whitebeard). Sabo couldn’t let his friend die because he was a pirates son; so Sabo saved Jellal and fled the kingdom of Goa. Sabo also explained how Jellal taught him how to fight, survive and defend himself and even gave him a nickname AolSabo to honor their cherished friendship. The childhood friendship of Sabo and Jellal was cut short again when the military of Goa searched for them. Sabo insisted that he would never leave Jellal’s side and that he would protect him like did for him. Jellal agreed and Sabo would help him find a another camp ground only Sabo remember getting knocked out by Jellal. Sabo explained the next thing he woke up to was finding Jellal’s metal pipe and note telling Sabo that he surrendered to the Goa Army and thanked him for being the best friend he could ever ask for. Sabo also explained later drew Jellal’s right eye mark on the staff pipe to honor and carry the memory of his first friend. Sabo promises Jellal that he will carry on his memory and will stay alive and survive for him. Jellal regained consciousness after passing out from a panic attack and remembers the day he left in the forest alone and surrendered to Goa Army. Jellal recalls Ace conversation about his childhood friend Sabo and how his boat was attacked and a 10 year old Sabo apparently drowned. Jellal, filled with sadness and guilt, felt like he betrayed Sabo and that he let a 10 year old boy drown. Jellal would develop a deep resentment and a grudge towards the World Government and celestial dragons for they did to Ace and a 10 year old Sabo, vowing vengeance against the World Government and the celestial dragons for oppressive actions and for what they did to his friends; however, unknown to them for a long time both friends were separated, both Sabo and Jellal are still alive and well. Jellal with Crime Sorcière and Sabo with the Revolutionary Army. But now, Jellal knows Sabo is alive and well and is uncomfortable with seeing him again fearing that me might be angry at him for not telling him he’s alive. Ace tells Jellal that he will Sabo will forgive him and that Sabo is a kind person. Ace may not be able to leave land Fiore but he tells Jellal to look after Sabo and Luffy like he does for him and Erza.

After waking up and realizing that had been knocked for a few days, Sabo realized Jellal wasn’t with him. Sabo finds a note saying that Jellal had surrendered himself to the Goa Kingdom and had to accept his punishment for abducting Sabo and escaping from the kingdom of Goa. To his horror Sabo believed Jellal would be executed by the Goa Government for his actions in kidnapping Sabo and being the illegitimate son of a pirate. Believing he was a alone, Sabo burst into tears knowing he would not be able to see his best friend again but Jellal was sent to the tower of heaven by a cult under the world government in an attempt to put Fiore under its oppressive regime. After wandering through the wilderness alone, Sabo would meet a black haired kid with freckles who offered to help him and be his friend. Before he went to Dressrosa, Jellal went to check on Erza and Ace, he saw them with Carla, Gray, Happy, Lucy, Natsu and Wendy. Erza asked Ace about the x crossed s on his left shoulder wondered if the tattoo was to spell his name Ase wrong and why it was ASCE. Ace explains that "A" stands for Ace his, "S" stands for Sabo his best friend and brother, and "C" stands for "crybaby" (meaning Luffy his little brother). Finally, "E" stands for Edward Newgate for the true father in his life. They asked who Sabo was because he didn’t talk about him much. Ace remained silent, Carla, Erza, Gray, Happy, Lucy, Natsu, and Wendy told it’s okay they can tell anything. Ace took a deep breath and tears streamed down his face. When Ace and Luffy were kids Sabo left Dawn island on a stolen ship to begin his journey as a pirate. While they learned Sabo had boarded on a boat, the stolen ship crosses paths with a ship of a Celestial Dragon. Rattled by Sabo’s audacity to sail alongside a vessel of a Celestial, he shoots down the boat Sabo was sailing in, making everyone think that Sabo drowned. As a tribute to Sabo and his Jolly Roger. Carla, Erza, Gray, Happy, Lucy, Natsu, and Wendy were horrified and saddened by the fact that Sabo was actually a child only ten years old, Erza moved over to her half brother and hugged him for comfort and tells him “Sabo was just a child I’m sorry to hear that Ace” with tears flowing down her eyes. Upon ease dropping on the conversation, Jellal was rattled with horror, sadness and guilt as he remembered his first friend and childhood friend Sabo. Melody asked Jellal what’s wrong with him, Jellal breathes heavily and breaks down. Meledy helps Jellal flee before they are spotted. Jellal cries hysterically and mutters “What have I done?! What the hell have I done?! I betrayed him, I left alone and I left him to drown…”. Unable to hold back tears, Jellal’s sadness and guilt caused him to have a panic attack and realizing that he remembered promising Sabo that he would protect him from danger and that he would never die on him. Jellal screams in horror and faints as thought to himself “Why, he wasn’t a threat to anyone, he wasn’t a danger to the world government, nor Goa, nor the navy, nor the celestial dragons. He was an innocent child and Sabo is my friend.”. As Jellal remained unconscious, Sabo returns to his home in the Revolutionary Army but as he enters Sabo remembers a childhood friend and a mark on his right eye. Sabo goes to his quarters in sadness and tears stream down his face as he remembers his apparent dead friend Jellal and utter in a whisper “I miss you.…Jellal.” Sabo recalls the name Jellal called him and the words spoken to him “AolSabo” “Hey AolSabo”.

While Ace and Erza went on an S-Class mission to hunt down Shiki, Ace and Erza developed a close relationship not in romantic way, but saw each other like brother and sister. But also something about Erza interested Ace not romantically but he saw someone familiar about her. While Ace and Erza went on an S-Class mission to hunt down Shiki, Demura one of Shiki’s crew mates reveals that Erza isn’t the daughter of and not just daughter of Irene Belserion and Gol D. Roger Irene Belserion had an affair with Outlook III and conceived a child after Erza and Ace were born a year after; shocked by all this, Ace learns Erza is the half sister of his brother and best friend Sabo as well as learning that he and Sabo are actually step brothers.

Jellal comes to visit Ace and let wants to tell him something. Jellal explains to Ace that he doesn’t have to worry about Luffy or his other brother, they’re both going to be okay. Jellal was in dressrosa following someone from the revolutionary army; to Jellal’s surprise it was an old childhood friend of Jellal, his friend AolSabo otherwise known as Sabo. Ace shocked and relieved to hear that his best friend and brother is still alive and well; Ace asks Jellal how does he know Sabo. Jellal explains that he and Sabo were close friends during their days as royal status children. Jellal didn’t like the fact that was royal status and he didn’t have many friends before he met Erza, Jellal was followed by a nobles-son who was looking for a friend to play with and hang around with as well. Jellal seeing that the nobles-son was friendly & nice the two became fast friends, Jellal even gave him the nickname AolSabo because it was a way express their close friendship. However, Jellal & Sabo had thing in common they both resented their royal lineage and dreamed of leaving their royal family and traveling together across the world. One day, Sabo was told by his royal parents that he couldn’t be friends with Jellal anymore because Jellal would be put to death for carrying the blood of a pirate within him and one that tainted his royal bloodline; unable to accept this, Sabo went looking for his friend to save him from death. Sabo found Jellal in a dungeon awaiting his execution in two days; shocked and surprised to see his friend Jellal asked why Sabo would come for him and Sabo responded “because I care about you and you’re my friend”. After letting Jellal out of his dungeon cell guards had noticed Jellal escaping. In an instant, Jellal held Sabo hostage and threatened to kill him if the guards didn’t back away and let him take Sabo as his captive. Sabo asked Jellal what is he doing and Jellal tells Sabo to play along it’s the only way they can escape together. Sabo agrees and the guards let Jellal escape with Sabo. Sabo tells Jellal he prepared a carriage on the outskirts of Goa for them to leave together, find a boat and get of Dawn island.

After escaping Goa Kingdom, Sabo asked Jellal why he was put to death & Jellal responds “I’m the son of a pirate named Edward Newgate. I was breed from a love affair he had with a celestial dragon” Sabo didn’t care if he was the son of a Pirate they are friends forever. Sabo demanded that Jellal promised him that they would stay together forever as friends and that he would never die. Reluctantly Jellal agreed promised Sabo that he would never leave his side nor would he he die on him as well as protecting him from danger and if he was in danger. After 3 weeks of traveling by carriage the two friends had camped and Jellal taught Sabo how to survive and defend for himself. Later the two friends stopped in small to get supplies for their camp and to get a map to find a coastal village for them to escape by boat during their stay in the town Jellal & Sabo build metal pipe as a weapons of choice and for self defense. While heading back to camp, Jellal and Sabo noticed Goa guard at the campsite looking for them and their carriage confiscated; having no other option, Jellal & Sabo had to travel on foot. After two days of traveling on foot, the friendship of Jellal and Sabo began to grow. One day the Goa military had found Jellal, he managed to fight them on his own but he had to protect Sabo. Sabo tells Jellal that they have find another camping spot but Jellal thanks Sabo for helping him out and being his friend but he to go on without him. Sabo tells him that he would never leave his side and wants to protect Jellal the way he protected him. Jellal reluctantly agrees and tells Sabo to lead the way to a campsite. As Sabo takes the lead, Jellal knocks him out and hides Sabo in a tree where nobody can see nor find him Jellal tears up and tells Sabo “I’m sorry AolSabo but I can’t go with you. You have to live, You have to survive, and You have to stay alive and stay strong. Thank you for being my friend AolSabo. I wish I could go to sea but I’m not letting you get hurt for my sins for my bloodline, you’re a good person. I’ll miss you. Take care of yourself and stay alive AolSabo”. Jellal turns himself in to the Goa military and would later end up in the Tower of Heaven where be a slave until his death and Sabo would meet Ace and later Luffy.
