The two main places in AOEINE are Seley and Mariones which are cities in the state Ursidae, in The United States of Illumina. There is also the magic realm but that isn't important for a while.

There are four species that someone can fall into in the world and a societal hierarchy within that. Witch, Cryptid, Fae, and Human.

In the modern society of Illumina, there is a hierarchy, the order being Witches on top, then Cryptids, Fae, and lastly, Humans.

Witches can have three types of magic which are typically accompanied by a tool to help them control their abilities. Weak to average witches use wands made of ancient wood. Their magic runs through their body and into the wand, helping them direct and refine their spells. Without the wand these witches would not be able to cast spells properly. The next is a staff. Staffs are also made of ancient wood, but are larger and have a stone in the center. The stone stores the witches magic and expels it when casting a spell. It takes a while for it to recharge after however. Witches who use staffs can use wands but their magic would be weaker. Witches who use wands cannot use staffs. The last way is pure magic. Pure magic is the most dangerous as it is fueled by emotion. It is powerful and cannot be contained in a wand and can be partially contained in a staff. Humans can learn very basic magic but are not considered witches and should not call themselves witches.

Cryptids, or more commonly known as shifters, can be any animal and shift between human and animal forms. Shifters have three forms they can take. The first is almost fully human but with a few animalistic features. The next is what humans consider "half human half animal", but is known by shifters as true form. The third is fully animal. Some shifters go by generalized terms. For example a manta ray shifter and a bull shark shifter would both be called Mermaids. Others would be werewolf, werecat, avian, and draconic.

Fae, or Faeries, are seen as the weaker beings in the magic realm. This is because they are seen as both a cryptid and a witch. Fae have the ability to shift between sizes, both big and small, and can show or hide their wings at will. They are also born into an elemental house which gives them magical abilities. These elements are earth, water, fire, air, flora, and fauna. Fae don't like to mingle with humans and shun fae who befriend humans.
