Antique 18th century oak Lincolnshire chest
This peace of oak country furniture come into me for restoration, after being damaged through house fire , the chest was badly damaged from smoke and water . Along with somebody’s brut force in removing the fake draw front .
Thus chest has four draws at the bottom with 5 upove being false and are fixed. The top lifts up to reveal access and was designed like this for the blankets and quilts to be placed in them. As this would of belonged in a bedroom traditional.
The furniture had the loose. Joints fixed along with some old repairs that had come loose due to the water.. the mahogany veneers was loose in places and would require fresh scotch glue to be used. Once all repairs were carried out and the draw fronts glue back on the chest was cleaned to remove the water damaged from the surface and allowed to dry.
The. Best was then rubbbed back slightly and beewax applied and left to harden. After repeating this process of beewax and buffing the chest was nearly finished before a hard wax was used to finish.
