alright soo. let’s begin with a little definition from wikipedia.

rape culture is a concept that links rape and sexual violence to the culture of a society, and in which prevalent attitudes and practices normalize, excuse, tolerate, and even condone rape. Examples of behaviors commonly associated with rape culture include victim blaming, sexual objectification, and trivializing rape.

now. i can’t stand CS at all which is why i don’t rewatch their episodes so it’s rather normal that i don’t remember all the lines correctly BUT. let’s begin with season two where Hook, upon just meeting Emma, called her dried up and useless.it is not only my opinion that it’s hard not to link these particular words with a sort of a sexual reference. im not even going to go deeper into the details. the words he used were disgusting and i feel sick even just thinking about it. he fucking called her dried up. i just. ugh.

then (i think it was the same episode), he said he wants to jab her with his sword and he made a very suggestive move.

they. just. met.

so let’s make it clear - first he left her to die and then he wanted to jab her with his sword. you with me?

if it doesn’t scream sexual objectification i don’t know what does.

and oh, let’s not even mention usually i prefer to do more enjoyable things with a woman on her back.

these kind of jokes - i’m not even sure they should be called jokes because they’re far from funny - are not something that should be heard anywhere in the world and especially so in a show that calls itself a family show.

Emma was fucking fighting for her mother’s, her friends’ and her own life, she was fighting to come back to her family and he couldn’t even bring himself to treat her seriously.

i don’t think i have to mention that his words clearly indicated rape - here you are, trivializing rape at its finest. it worries me a great deal that this show presented it as something normal and therefore now we have thousands of young impressionable boys who think such a behaviour will fucking get them the girl AND we have young girls who watch this show and are said to fucking drool over and even fucking appreciate hearing comments like these from a guy. way to go, OUAT, way to go.

"be mean to her - she will love it", "throw sexist jokes at her - she will love it", "joke about rape - she will be yours in a matter of seconds".

aside from CS, i think we all remember Hook saying (about Milah) that he could use a woman on a ship because his mates have their needs. and he clearly indicates it wouldn’t be the first time they’d participate in such a thing. still gagging when i remember his words.

basically, everything in his behaviour screams “you’re a woman, i have no respect for you and you should like it”.

one of the worst things about this ship is that the show is constantly trying to tell us that when a woman says no it means yes - and it’s a fucking shitty message to send because you know how rapists excuse rape?

"well you know, they said no but i knew they wanted it."

you know what? no. when a woman says no it actually means fucking no and Hook just constantly ignores it - and gets cheers from the writers for it! - because come on it’s just Emma making him work for it, right?

no.

"no" doesn’t mean "try harder". it doesn’t mean "maybe in a few days", it doesn’t mean "let me think about it" or "stay around and i’ll see". it means no. no dude, i don’t want you. no, dude, i’m not interested. no, dude, fucking fuck off. AND THAT’S THE MESSAGE THIS SHOW SHOULD BE SENDING.

if Hook’s such a great guy why doesn’t he respect Emma’s decisions at all?

does he think she’s being unreasonable? does he think he knows better than her what she wants? YES, HE DOES. HE FEELS ENTITLED TO HER. HE FEELS THAT HE LAID HIS CLAIM ON HER JUST BECAUSE HE LIKES HER AND THAT SHE DOESN’T GET A SAY IN IT BECAUSE COME ON - WHICH SENSIBLE PERSON WOULD EVER SAY NO TO A GUY LIKE HIM???

i’m not even going to talk about the fact that Emma - the hero of the story - has been reduced to nothing more than Hook’s LI.

that in the eyes of the town people he is completely redeemed even though he did shit to deserve it - and women - like Regina - still are called evil after three seasons of character development.

i’m not going to talk about his constant lies to Emma that make me think of sexist books like the heart of darkness in which women were presented as too weak to handle the truth and therefore had to be lied to.

i’m not going to mention the fact that Emma just conveniently forgot everything he made her and other people like Snow or Regina go through and became a giggly mockery of everything this character used to represent for this white male’s convenience.

i’m not going to talk about it because if i did, i would start fucking crying.
