This is Art with your second update on the “Squirrel and Corn” situation.
This just in: Rob discovered what gave him the shits so bad and boy, he'd love to tell Matt (and also you too - listener). Unfortunately, he wants to wake Matt up to tell him - so Matt is belligerent and we never find out what exactly gave him such bad shits. However, tomorrow is another message from Rob about his feces. One far more descriptive. So this message is foreshadowing of things to come. A sign of a storm on the horizon.
When you collect things as much as we do - their organization becomes an insurmountable task. Case in point: the answering machine that includes this message. This message hails from the very first answering machine that we ever collected. At the time we hadn't even thought about collecting them at all - it was purchased as a 'what-if' electronics project that died in the cold light of feasibility (ie: 'boy - that well-intentioned idea was poorly thought out). Just before that went down in flames, we thought 'hey - let's listen to this ... before we consider it a story for the rubbish bin.'
And it's a gem. A mother and daughter hold a conversation about the daughter's flu - where she describes such symptoms as:
Diarrhea.
'The Runs'
'Stupid Cough'
Vomiting
'The Shakes'
'Getting Totally Drenched'
Her mother prescribes the cure-all of Milk Toast.
We had all but determined that this recording had been lost to the ages. But while giving our workbench a Spring Cleaning - boom. Staring us right in the face. "House Tape."
