Ansiel stood in the burning building relishing in the sounds of panic around him as the Vampires struggled between the choice to burn alive inside or to face the fury of the sun outside of their home. He was so in awe that his plan had gone well that he neglected to notice he had trapped himself in. By the time he had, it was too late. A support beam above his last exit collapsed, taking him down with it.
Above him, the other Scouts were still up in Haven training the day away. They were completely unaware of his excursion to the surface. Jedidiah Abraham, the Lead Scout of the South, where Ansiel had been relocated after proving too much for Uriel to handle, was hosting evasive flight training.
His unpopular apprentice, Morpheus Somnum, had just bolted from tree cover to make a mad dash across the flight deck. "C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!" he huffed and panted between powerful flaps. Jedidiah was having none of it.
Despite Morpheus’ best effort, Jedidiah closed the gap. Upon reaching him, he flew directly above the younger angel and tapped him on the back. He was confident in his own skills so he gave the kid a warning.
"You might want to watch out," he said.
Before his apprentice had time to think, he was kicked into the ground. He cried out as he plummeted. His chin, nose and cheeks skidded across the dirt. As his teacher stepped off of him, the laughter from the Scouts began.
“Great job Jed!”
“Of course Morpheus was no match for you!”
“Thank you. Alright, let’s go again!-” Began the Lead Scout before a cry from across the flight deck disrupted his thoughts.
“Jed! It’s Ansiel!”
“Hold that thought,” said the Lead Scout before running over.
There was Ansiel, covered in fresh burns and soot, supported by the arms of another Scout. He had a crazed grin on his face. “What happened?” Asked Jed.
“Burned- they burned.” answered the broken man. His vision filled with the sight of burning buildings and vampires. When he came back to reality, his superior had fear in his eyes. Was it for him or of him? It didn’t matter.
“Take him to the infirmary…”
