OJI Blog #5 | Day 5 of 9
Back at it again! After a weekend of rest, we are now back and ready for another work immersion grind! The date today is February 18, 2019, which is also the birthday of my co-immersionist Ms. Aji Vidiot Dimaclid! Happy Birthday to you girl. ❤
Today is a day full of laughs and knowledge. We just met the third Medical Technologist Mr. Noelle Narte, the 'Erwan Heussaff' of the laboratory. He was a very jolly and enthusiastic co-worker. It was so very kind of him to use his free time to discuss to us the process of FECALYSIS. He first taught us that fecal examination includes both macroscopic (can be observed by the naked eye) and microscopic (needs the help of a microscope). In macroscopic, we observe the color, consistency and mucus. Colors can be brown, red, yellowish brown, black and so on. Brown means normal, while red and black feces contains blood. Red feces means you have problems in the lower part of your digestive tract, while black feces indicates that you have problems in your upper digestive tract which is worse. Consistency is determined if the feces is soft, formed, hard, watery, watery-based and so on.
In the other hand, microscopic fecal examination includes determining the parasites present. We were able to see the amoeba present in the feces of a patient. It was amazing!
