Tbh I feel like "this is a facet of [characters] personality that has been simmering in the background since [year] and deserves to be explored more and not just for [relationship] angst" is a statement that applies to lots of characters and not just Callum. Even Ben, who is one of the more present characters, has his history treated in the same way (e.g. every time his relationship w Phil is used for drama then the long term consequences and emotional fallout dropped 💀 Legit the last time his past was explored for more than just drama was prob the anniversary of Paul's death in 2019). So it's p much an established flaw with the show as a whole no matter how much screentime someone gets.
it all comes down to the fact that character development gets shoved to the side in favor of plot advancement. which is dumb bc literally everyone who watches this show watches for the characters, not the plots, so when they start manipulating and changing and ruining (and killing) characters for plot, it destroys our will to enjoy the show
