is there a modern jaybin depiction that you'd recommend?
either because it's well written or you like the design
I am defining modern as from the year 2000 or later. Not all of these are perfect but theyre at a level to be recommendable
Retroactive 1980s Batman
This comic is from 2011 and was written by Mike Barr, one of Jason's original writers from the 80s. Id say its the best youre actually going to get with modern Jaybin depictions
Next up is one that's more controversial, but Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade
This features a very violent Jaybin. However. What sets it apart is that it makes it abundantly clear Jason is acting exactly how Bruce taught him to. Jason is following what he's been taught perfectly. And thats an important distinction to me. Its not for everyone, but with how much anger violence reckless not fit for this Jaybin ive been forced to read, it was a very pleasant surprise. And Jason emulating Bruce is a fact thats been true since the 80s.
Uhh lightning round bc i dont wanna look up more comic covers
About living Jason:
Robin 80th Anniversary: Jason's story within this collection is short and sweet. I wouldnt usually recommend winick for Jaybin. Hes quite bad at it. but this one is the exception
Bombshells United #7-12 (i think): Is Jason robin? No. But it is a young Jason in an au world. A fun one. Though the ending isnt always enjoyed
About ghost or otherwise dead Jason (but hes still a character):
DC's Batman Smells Robin Laid An Egg: Basically this whole time people have been recommending this to me as a good modern Jaybin comic. Jason's story here is a pretty fun one. And the art is delightful
Deadman: Dead Again: He's not in every issue of this series, but its fun to see him, and a panel of this comic has been my header image for ages. Jason appears in issues 2, 3, and 4
Gotham Knights (2000) #34: Not the main story, but the short story at the end, The Delusions of Alfred Pennyworth. A fun one
Gotham County Line #3: His scenes are brief, hes a zombie, and hes not real. But ough so delightful. So very delightful. My gosh. One of my favs to just go back to and read Jason's parts
Bonus is Jason's like single and distant panel where he doesn't even talk in Green Arrow (2001) #7
Uhh i think thats it. They should consider making more living Jaybin stories that are also good. Would be awesome if we had more modern Jaybin stories that are also good
