It's Monday again. And here's some inspiration for my last minute papers that have been due for months and I'm feeling blue and feeling like shit like shitty first drafts.
I read this essay three years ago in an advanced composition class. I ending up independently conducting research for three months and writing a forty page paper. 4-0. 40. Pages. of Paper. Not over indented with 16 pt font periods. I never thought I could do something like that, Ever. But I did. And I survived.
So in writing all these small final papers I need to finish in order to pass this semester and graduate college (not overwhelming at all) I remind myself of all those shitty first drafts.
Everyone writes them. It's your first draft. It doesn't mean shit. It is shit. And you know it. But we have to write them anyway.
So as inspiration for this Monday I'm writing tons of shitty first drafts in honor of Anna Lamott's essay and thumbing my nose at the perfectionist in me.
