Apparently I'm a street dog portraitist!
Dead letters
Do you think Post offices Have a massive graveyards For all the unsent letters Imagine how eerie that place would be- A store room full of words that never found their way Brimming with emotions yet not a single person around Dusty letters with smudged addresses Photographs and Post cards Dried tear stains Urgent news whose urgency is lost Frantic calls that felt like betrayal since the letter never made it to a response Heaps of envelopes that look like grave stones The paper soon beginning to lose its form As silverfish and types of beetles replace the maggots Within no time the stack becomes a monologue of a story with layers and layers And before we unlearn any of these stories, Walking out of the storage with a sensation of discomfort, An old man in khadi appears from the dirt, his crumbled fingers pull out the record book, Reluctantly justifying the cause of death As though the silhouette emerging from the shadows, the gatekeeper of secrets in dust, belonged there for a reason, Like do many all over the map, Owning personal graveyards, Of letters I could not deliver.
