Working out the appearance of some things in my North American-based fantasy world/campaign setting (for Pathfinder):
On the left, an arimaspi soldado de cuera. The arimaspoi are a race of one-eyed magical beast hunters, specializing in griffins; the lamia queens of their homeland have encouraged them to immigrate to the new world, where a nation of griffon-riding amazons defends a region known to be rich in gold. Some arrive, however, only to seek out a different life.
On the right, a nibinabe, riverine merfolk of Anishnaabe/Algonquin/Menominee legend. I'm a little mystified that so many artists portray merfolk as having just kind of generic fish tails, so i tried to style the nibinabe after brook trout.
