One thing i really liked about the comic was that they made the morphing really gross
You are right! I know a couple of people mentioned the fear that the morphing was gonna be sanitized and/or prettified and/or made into magical girl transformations. But it was definitely NOT pretty.
[Image ID: Two panels from the comic of The Invasion. Both show Tobias transforming from a grey-striped cat to a blond human in the background while Jake, a red-haired light-skinned human, turns away in the foreground. The top panel has the sound effects “crack” and “snap” next to Tobias as Jake’s speech bubble says “You say it doesn’t hurt to morph...” The bottom panel has the sound effects “crack” and “crunch” next to Tobias as Jake’s speech bubble says, “but it sounds awful.”]
I agree that the shudder-inducing pee-your-pants body horror is a lot of what makes Animorphs unique, and that the comics did well at both keeping the grossness while not making it so gross as to be unreadable.
