32 Days of Beethoven #7
For this one I found something fun: an animated score using the Boris Giltburg recording, made by Stephen Malinowski.
Presto Ok this animated score is fun, but it is also just A LOT. Especially as this this movement is a lot. In a good way, but I'm remembering why I gave up on watching along with non-animated scores. There was a nice delicate bit where we were just getting four note descending bits but then it came back with chords even more tha usual. And now we're getting a repeat of that but with some harmony, right before a banging end.
Largo E Mesto Oh, interesting, this movement's score loks more impressionlistic with the notes as diffuse regions instead of dots when it's being harmony. Also in a slow movement I have the ability to really take it in. The harmony is providing a nice dark background, and then we get some melody. I like how the animation shows that the melody breaks into multiple harmonzing lines and there's a bit where they move in opposite directions. And we get the bit I liked again with three harmonizing lines but it feels heavier now. Ooooh, this is very texturing and cool.
Menuetto Allegro. Ok, were' starting off with a nice well-behaved minuet theme. But this second theme is disruptive. We're elaborating on the nice minuet theme, but really I just want to get back to the exciting disruptive bit. Ok, now we're elaborating on the disruptive bit, I think I liked it better before it started elaborating. And that's it? it wasn't much.
Rondo OK, final movement. Back to showing off, but starting out less fast than the first movement. Have we had a rondo before? This one is structurally pretty clear, we have the same bit introducing every segment, and I think that the animation does a good job of showing how it's the same but not played at the same rhythm each time.
Overall: Back to four movements -- I was liking the last two three movement sonatas, and you know, I'm not sure we really needed the short minuet here? The experience of watching the animation was cool, and I suspect I would get more out of it on rewatch. But people who are short on time should just watch the slow movement animation, it's the coolest..
