Hi, as an animal activist I want to note something here about animal experiments. I really am tired of telling people about my past ignorance status and how I was postponing my dreams for long years for not being a part of animal experiments; when they blame me of doing experiments on animals. Lets start Do scientists who do animals experiments are curiel creatures with no mercy in their hearts? - no, we are not. We do love animals, may be more than you think or may be more than you do. and no, we dont mastrubate on killing animals - yes I am tired of your accusations like this. Is there any other way for science except trying or experimenting on animals? - depends on the area on the topic on the result that you expect and you want to use. Yes there are some cases in which may be if you dont do animal experiments, it is okay but mostly you have to do it. For example, up to me, the technology is developing so fast. and now in some schools they are using computer simulations in order to teach children about the internal organs of animals humans etc. Due to my opinion, sacrificing a mass of animals in the first and second years of bachelors - each animal for each student just to see the internal organs.. come oooon / I am not talking about physiology etc - is not really important. A secret: it was my first and last academic lie.. I told the assistants I was feeling sick and run away from that lecture. I didnt lost anything.. Really. however if you are going to do science, you have to study on animals. Let me tell you the situation basicly. It was the first time when I understood that there is no escape from this even though doing animal experiments were against my moral values. I was taking lectures from Cancer Institute of Hacettepe Medical School and I had a proffessor named L. D. - whom I still in love with and take as an example to myself for my future studies and still in contact - We were studying cancer signal transduction and hypoxia and epigenetics together and one day she suddenly said, "the cell is a part of us however clever than us. We even cannot rule a single cell... " I just remember looking at her grey blue eyes which were shining with curiosity and passion for science. I was like "shit, I have to...I have to do animal experiments. We even cannot rule a single cell completely and we are trying to find a cure for sth in a whole system. a cell changes its signal transduction pathway to find its way itself, and when they are two cells now there are two unknowns... when it becomes a whole organ it changes when it becomes a system the reaction changes." So this is basicly, depending on the study that you do, "for now" - for now, because there is always a probability and expectations in science-, doing tissue cultures and trying to see the effect of the drug that you produce is just a fantasy. yes you can use these methods to decrease the animal numbers that are going to be sacrificed - like , doing in vitro first then doing the experiment on the organ tissue culture and then on a whole system - but you know what ? then stop consuming everything. because neither in vitro nor organ cultures are not really cheap ways to do experiments. stop consuming for yourselves, get on with your neighbour countries well, so you wont need any military and the money will directly be used by the science..... - upst ... but then if you have that money to use on science, why dont you just try to feed the people in Africa or why dont you just try to spend that money on first the conservation of species. I cannot believe that I am saying these, but this is the truth. The only thing that a scientist can do is, 1. we should be ethic. We should really work for science and development and for the sake of other living things - and non living things because it is nature together - instead of working for money - I mean I dont wanna be a silly romantic. We need money we work for it yes, however what I mean is not selling the ethical values to money 2. we should try to design the experiments in detail, try to decrease the bias - pls no bias - , and we should study carefully not to lose any animal for nothing - sometimes it happens but our faults are also contributing to science right? -there are other things which were on my mind but I forgot. I wanted to explain because I really am sorry the accusations of people. and they say that they are against animal experiments right? And they are blaming scientist right? so be sincere... dont use drugs, dont eat from supermarkets, dont make up, dont go to doctor.... then.
