💭 - “Sin’dorei. We all know what their forefathers did. I can never understand how or why, despite obvious mistakes and lessons to be learnt, some of their elders still insisted on repeating them. All for what? Power? Glory? How power-hungry do you have to be to make yourselves a liability? Look at them: if they hadn’t stubbornly remade a well - in this case their Sunwell - would Arthas and the Scourge have found their way towards it to use it for their purposes? Would they then have had to suffer in the way that they did in the aftermath of that? History could have turned out so differently, if only they had learnt the lessons that they should have learnt in the first place.”

“The same as most other people with a normal mental state?”

Eliendre’s gaze over the blood knight is that of mild bewilderment, unsure of the gist of his question. 

“Would you want to kill a faceless one? Or an aqir? Or k’thir? I am sure you would. Why would I be any different?”

She looks down at her covered hands, holding her warglaives.

“I may be trained to hunt and kill demons, but that does not mean that I cannot hunt and kill non-demons.”

Adelphin pauses mid-stride as the question is posed. Verinthis, however, runs ahead in the wood, happily chasing a butterfly with his net amidst the rays of the afternoon sun filtering through the trees. While she does not answer immediately, a soft smile touches her lips when she does.

“I am happy now.”

She chances a glance at Anierous.

“I’ve been away for a long time, away from my family. You don’t know how glad I am to have returned, when I thought that I would never see Azeroth again. True, I’m exiled from home. True, that my late husband remarried and had a child who does not carry my own blood, but… I don’t blame him. He’s gone anyway. I don’t blame our kin for what they did. I don’t blame the blood knights for what you had to do either. Maybe if I never left, I’d have done the same - who can tell now?

“What I do know is that I can’t dwell on the things that make me unhappy. I can’t dwell on the past, on what-ifs and what-has-beens. I owe it to the people I have sworn my entire life to protect, even if I am nothing to them. I owe it to my son.

“Most of all, I owe it to myself to carry on, and cherish these moments when they come along, because life is, indeed, shorter than our actual lifespans, with how we are living it now.”

“No, we don’t want to be believe it was all like that, but we pick out the beautiful things because we choose to remember them. Those are the memories that stay with us, and matter as much as if not more than the traumatic ones. They are what will stay with us in our darkest hours, and what will help us pull through so that we can keep on making beautiful moments.

“I disagree. A man is as likely to perform thoroughly stupid acts from selfish motives, including those under the guise of noble intentions. Surely, you don’t think everyone is an altruist, do you?”

The fountains in the Court of the Sun catch the light of the setting sun, rippling across the water’s surface. The tall magistrix, adorned in the heavily enchanted uniform of the warmagi of the Spire, glances towards the blood knight. Her voice is laced with husk, though she speaks languidly, almost absently responding to the statement uttered by Anierous. Her layered hair - copper except for a white forelock - barely hides the extensive felburn scar on the left edge of her face and forehead. Between her fingers, she holds the slender roll of a cigarette, poised and lifted as if she is smoking, though it is unlit.

A regal nod is offered, along with a polite greeting. “Knight-Champion.”
