She hits send.
"Now what?"
"Now we wait."
I-I'm sorry. But he was so happy to hear about me! I didn't want to tell you before he was done. He kept saying "this isn't over" so I waited. I introduced myself like you taught and he said it was "eye-Ron-ic". He said he couldn't wait to see me and that it was such a "co-in-sa-dents" I was here! He knew so much about you and daddy! He said you helped him and it was his turn to pay. What's wrong? Why are you upset? He was happy! Really happy! He even said he had a present to give you and Dada!
Torn between punching something and being sick, Klavier smiled, because that’s what you do in front of your little, innocent child who has no idea what’s going on. It wasn’t a happy smile. He just had to get through this, right now, and assure everyone was safe.
"I will explain this to you later," he promised, "but Kristoph.. He is not a nice man, and I’m going to call your Daddy right now, so just stay belted in, all right?"
After kissing his child’s forehead Klavier rounded to the driver’s seat, dialing Apollo’s number. When it went to voice mail he swore—German, always—and quickly left a message. Brief, with emphasis on Kristoph and meet at the Agency, I’m heading there now with our child.
"Love," he said, again calmly as he fired up the engine. "Did he--did Kristoph, or the officer, say anything else?"
((What can I say? AngstAnon the devil. Oops. I was going to do something happy, too)) A day or so? He knew our phone! He even wrote down our address, they said it to me! Is he your friend? Do I get to meet him? The off-ish-er said Chris toph was looking for you and daddy! He said he was "in-tents"! Does he know Auntie Trucy? They said he knew where she lived too! Are we gonna go see her? Should we wait for him here? They think he said he's ready now. Was he alright? Is he sick? I wanna meet him!
"A day ago?"
How did they not hear about this sooner? Apollo, Klavier needs Apollo.
"Officer? What officer?" He's confusing himself, exiting his home and locking the door behind him. He puts his child in the car--back seat, buckles him in nice and tight. Someone must have tried to call them about Kristoph's situation, and now--now--now...
"No," Klavier says quickly, "you do not want to meet him. He is not a good man, love. I'm going to call your Daddy, okay? I'm going to call him and we will go see your Aunt Trucy and Herr Wright."
Klavier kisses his child on their forehead. When he pulls away, he hesitates, his expression growing stern.
"And we will talk later about you answering the phone and not telling us. I am not forgetting that."
