I am making a new rule. As soon as someone starts posting about not being allowed to have a fav character, or being terrible for not pouring our attention equally to all the characters, I’m unfollowing them.
I understand posts about not hating on characters just because you don’t like them, that’s true, don’t do that. But if I like one character and talk about them a lot that doesn’t make me a terrible person. I have limited time and energy and honestly today I was feeling really stressed out and angry already (which I am sure happens to a lot of people).
Media is really big. Movies are really big. TV shows are really big. Books are really big. There is a lot going on and my attention span is not really great, neither is my attention to detail. And I’m not going to apologize for that. I am not going to apologize for something drawing my interest and making me happy because (see above). I am a naturally pessimistic person and when something makes me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m gonna tap into it because I need that in my life. And I’m not sorry.
Pointing out “hey this character is great”, that’s cool. Do that. Show me stuff. I love that. But do not assume things about me because of my fav character. Do not assume to know why they are my fav. Do not assume to know why I love one plot a lot.
How about instead we just accept and that we are different and that’s great?
For example, in Orphan Black there are so many clones. My favourite is Cosima, but if someone loves Sarah I’m not going to judge them, that’s cool. Let’s follow them and their love of Sarah will rub off (and it does, it has).
TLDR: So yeah. Fair warning I am unfollowing anyone demanding my time, energy and resources be turned away from something that makes me happy
