Because I want to. That’s it, pretty much.

I’m using this video tutorial as a basic guideline/jumping off point for my dollhouse. I looked at several others, but this one is the one I like the most. This channel has a lot of really cool tutorials.

First I did a sketch of what I want the house to look like when I’m done (not furniture, just the house itself

I tried a couple of different designs before I decided on this one. A rectangle, saltbox-like house with two floors and an attic. The side view shows the entrance hall (that little sticky out bit), but I eventually decided that the angle I had chosen wouldn’t be doable at my skill level and changed it to a flat top. I just didn’t have an eraser, which is why it still looks like it’s at that angle.

Next, I drew the individual pieces I needed to construct it.

I couldn’t find a pencil sharpener, either, so I kept changing colors of pencils as they got too dull. (spoiler: you’ll hear sentences like that a LOT. If I can’t find something, I prefer to make do then to go looking for it.) So the blue is, I’m just realizing, difficult to photograph. This picture is of the side design, the back (with a dotted line to show where the second floor will be), and what will eventually be the floor (the light blue piece which is hard to see). I labeled everything best I could.

This picture is the front and some smaller pieces. In the video, the house front is two pieces attached with ribbon so you can look inside, so I sketched out two pieces and numbered them. #2 goes on the left, #1 goes on the right. The smaller rectangle piece is inner walls to make rooms, and then I sketched pieces to make the front hall piece. 

Just on here to rant for a bit. I have anxiety and ADD, so I screw up on things all the time (yes I know, excuses excuses and that’s fair but please don’t rag on me right now), and my parents get mad at me about screwing up. Yet somehow, I think this is the second if not the third holiday season that my mother has left everything to the last minute and had at least one tearful “I’m sorry” breakdown. For some reason, I’m the only one around when she does it, of course, so I have to reassure her. I’m very bad at it, because I’m usually at least a little pissed off at her for something she IS doing wrong, but if I said that to her she’d just get even more upset, so I try to calm her down without lying. NOT EASY. UUUUGGGHHH.

Every time she went to the store to get gifts, she ended up buying wrapping paper, so I ended up with three times the gifts that she ended up with (gifts for others, not gifts for myself.). Also, if I’m the one helping her get gifts last minute, this means that I get ripped off. Mutter mutter mutter. I try to be adult, but I LIKE OPENING GIFTS TOO! I like opening GOOD gifts! And the last few years, I’ve just been...not getting good gifts. At all. From anyone. I don’t think my requests were unreasonable (a push vacum and an electric blanket), and she claims I’m easy to read, yet SHE KEEPS FORGETTING TO WRITE IT DOWN. I’ve given her so many ideas in the last month and a half for EVERYONE and yet she STILL forgets them! And I can’t ask her for help with the gifts I AM behind on because then she just ends up feeling sorry for herself because I’m way ahead of her.

And then she came home and was given plenty of alone time to run around and destress. SUCH A GOOD BUNNY.
