As Nicholas was first stepping down into the city on a mostly quiet evening, he felt a ripple on the minds and emotions he could feel through the filter of his mental barriers. It was like a distant bright star had fallen into a sea of dimly glowing lights. He had only encountered another of this type before, many years ago. He was curious to know what an Angel was doing in a city like this.
Meandering the streets in a semi-casual suit and jacket and making his way toward that beacon, he was skimming over the surface thoughts of the ordinary people on his path toward it. There didn’t seem to be any awareness in these people’s minds of the presence of the Angel. Perhaps it wasn’t here to cause trouble for him, or it hadn’t yet begun.
Oddly enough, as he stepped out into a calm street, he saw--with blinding clarity--that the man the Angel was inhabiting was standing right on the side of the road. He seemed rather... distracted, staring into space. The aura that marked him as an Angel in his perception was painfully bright and hot. And as with his previous encounter with a human occupied by an Angel, he felt no emotional overtones as he drew closer.Â
Nicholas amped up his shields to protect himself from the painful purity that his light shed in his mind and stepped up to stand casually beside him
“Excuse me for my boldness, but what is an Angel doing in this city?” Nicholas’s voice was pleasant and conversational, no hidden meaning or threat to his voice. “The last encounter I had with your kind had the death logs backed up for several weeks.”
