Autoflowers and Ruderalis
Ruderalis was once known as a strain and is now considered the third species of marijuana. Ruderalis is said to be recorded first by botanist D.E. Janischewsky and originated in eastern Europe and Asia. This species is known for its short plants with fewer branches which means a smaller yield, but it has a higher CBD percentage and stronger fibers for clothing and textiles. Autoflower refers to the traits of the Ruderalis that is crossed with other strains, giving the plant an “age” if you will, not being dependent on the photoperiod. So yes, all autoflowers do come from Ruderalis, but the rumors on autoflowers potency and yield are myths. This category of cannabis started with the strain Low Ryder which is credited to Joint Doctor, and took about 30 years to perfect. The first Low Ryder produced wasn’t very potent, but small enough for anybody to grow, and it was versatile. Eventually they came up with a great mix of Northern Lights #2 for faster yeilds and higher potency, Mexican Ruddy which derives from Ruderalis seeds from Mexico, and Williams Wonder to perfect the photoperiod. Originally the strain was Northern Lights and Mexican Ruddy. Since, there have been many strains that are autoflowers and have been potent and have high yields depending on grow environment and lighting. About 1kg came off of an Auto Ultimate by Dutch Passion which is the biggest yeild for an autoflower. An autoflower plant is intended to make growing more accessible in various environments and for indoor or outdoor use, making it more available to the public or perfect for first time growers and will take about 9 to 12 weeks to flower. Our favorite autoflower plant we have grown is the Pineapple Express from Amsterdam Marijuana Seeds, share your favorite autoflower experience.
