Glutton for Punishment
There wasn't much in the way of horror stories that could keep a demon awake, afraid to close their eyes in case they might be faced with the stuff of their worst nightmares. There wasn't much but what there was was the Winchesters.
Esme had learned to keep her distance from the Winchesters. The last thing she wanted was to be thrown back into Hell by their doing. Even after Sam disappeared into the cage with Lucifer, Esme was wary of running into the remaining brother. Imagine her surprise, then, when she spotted the younger Winchester stumbling around, apparently back from the cage.
Esme felt the colour drain from her face when she spotted the hunter wandering down a deserted street of the small town she had been using as a temporary base. Had he tracked her there? Was his brother with him? She hadn't been doing anything to arouse any hunters' suspicions so perhaps it was a coincidence. If only Esme believed in such things. And yet something struck her about his demeanor. He didn't appear to be the fierce and determined hunter she had heard about. He seemed, well, lost.
Despite knowing it was a mistake, she walked over to him. She would inquire as to why he was here and once she had that information, she would leave quickly, before he realised what she was. "Excuse me, are you here for the music festival? I hear there's quite a buzz about it in town," she asked ever so innocently, hoping that there might actually be such a festival around. Humans were constantly holding such events, right?
Ain't Nothing But A Mistake
Dean was, for once, in high spirits. Sam was back. Alright so his brother had no memory of anything before he managed to escape the cage he had been in with Lucifer but he was back and that was better than nothing. There was also Naomi, who had made herself a part of the Winchester family during Sam's absence. She helped look after Sam while Dean went out for hunts and she helped look after Dean whether he wanted her to or not. Just this once, Dean allowed himself to be in a good mood because of this.
