When is a gay joke okay?
You're probably thinking never right? And in most cases I agree. But joking is part of life, like you'd joke about marrying your best friend. Joke about people being together etc. So after watching a massive argument on big brother I've decided to take my opinions to tumblr about making jokes about things. So first of all the argument was over two of the housemates joking about being engaged, they were both guys. They made rings out of foil and were laughing and giggling about it. Also these two housemates identify as either gay or bisexual. Another housemate lost his cool and said it was disgusting and disrespectful of the gay community etc. Stating that people get killed for being gay and have fought for years to be able to marry the person they love. Which is true, it's terrible that even to this day in some places in the world people can't marry someone they love just down to gender. But as a gay woman myself I would disagree, my opinions are I want to be treated normally I want conversations about gay marriage and gay relationships to be normal conversations. People have been fighting for years for it to become normal, for it to be shown on tv talked about like it was no big deal. Because acceptance is one thing, it's all well and good accepting people being gay but if you still treat them differently we've still got ages to go. For as long as stuff like that is made a big deal out of gay people are always going to be treated different. We need equality, and we joke about straight relationships and marriage all the time so for equality to happen all marriage has to be taken normally. Not as anything different than straight marriage. Because guess what! IT ISN'T.
