Welcome to Thrae Part 1: Who’s in Thrae?
Hey everyone and welcome to the first part in a little mini series of world building posts about Thrae, the world where Blue and the rest of the Rainbow Trilogy takes place. In this first post I am going to talk a bit about the different kinds of people you will meet in Thrae. I’d love to hear any questions you have or suggestions of what else you would like to see.
Who are you going to meet?
Malikorians
Ancient, angel like creatures, they are said to have been the first children of the Wardens. Foskari, Warden of Light, and Kurebris, Warden of Darkness, are said to have created them to be the first line of defense against chaos returning to the world. They take the form of humans with large colorful wings coming out of their back. There are 7 main types of Malikorian, each corresponding to a color of the rainbow. However, there are also 2 ascended Malikorians, given the colors White and Black. These two are said to be chosen by Foskari and Kurebris respectfully to preside over all the other Malikorians and be their ambassadors on Thrae. Malikorians are able to manipulate energy of corresponding colors to their own. They are very adept at different types of kinesis and mental manipulation, some are even able to manipulate life forces. Unfortunately after a several millennia of the Malikorians being the leaders of all the other human like species, one White Malikorian named Aeron wanted to enforce his vision of a better world on Thrae and the worst war the world had ever seen broke out. Many different types of Andr, the Humagons, the dragons and even the Malikorians themselves were wiped out. It only ended when Aeron and his primary followers were sealed away in a different plane of existence, never to be released. The war left a bad memory of Malikorians and at the present time they are seen as monsters from a bygone era.
Androkas
These guys are basically born werewolves. They are people whose mind is controlled by two different entities, the human and the wolf. Most people don’t gain the wolf half of their mind until around puberty. The process causes them to become fairly ill with most running high fevers and having massive headaches. Only one entity can be in control of the body at once, however the other one has the ability to see and feel everything that is happening and interact with the controlling entity. Just like their wolf counterparts, Androkas are very family oriented and often form packs. The hierarchy of their government is based off the idea of a pack system where those at the top are bound to protect and help those beneath them however they possibly can.
Andreles
These guys are basically born werecats and the dynamic they have with their feline side is very similar to that of the Androkas. However, there are quite a few different kinds of cats that fall under the category of Andreles. The main three are lions, tigers and panthers. Lions are the ruling type and the only ones allowed to hold official government offices outside of a small community. Tigers are all but extinct, as Lions and many others kill them on sight. This is due to a prophecy which tells that a tiger will destroy the world. Granted people don’t know the actual wording but the rumor is something nearly everyone knows and many do not want to see come to fruition. Panthers are actually another umbrella term for all other big cats that are not Lions and Tigers. They make up the majority of the Andreles population however they are considered beneath the Lions. Â
Magic Users
Easily the most diverse in terms of abilities. Every magic user has an affinity for one of the four cardinal elements (earth, air, fire, water). This affinity allows them to fairly easily manipulate their element with practice. It is possible for a person to be able to manipulate all four of the elements but it takes almost a lifetime of dedication and even then their command of the other elements is usually not overly strong. However, manipulation is not the only thing magic users are capable of. There are different schools of magic including animacy, mental magic, alchemy and enchantment. Any magic done within a school is always done with the element they have an affinity for. They are commonly seen in all kinds of places and make up a good part of the population.
Humans
Well I feel this group is fairly self explanatory. Occasionally some may have very faint abilities but for the most part they lack all ability to manipulate energy. Don’t let this fool you though. Regular old humans can still be deadly in a pinch, especially because they know they are already starting with the disadvantage.Â
Vampires
Vampires, similar to Malikorians, are considered actual children of the Wardens. They were the youngest of the three children species, and made with the help of all 6 Wardens. Vampires feed off of emotion, or more specifically the energy people put out when they are feeling emotions. They are masters of arts and physical entertainment, using their skills to cultivate the emotions they need to survive. Mostly they are a peaceful kind of people, who keep to themselves unless feeding. As such they are the only one of the three children who are not thought to be extinct by the general populace. They do have a fatal flaw though. There is a disease that does terrible that only severely affects them. It slowly strips them of their abilities and makes them more human in nature. If they survive the transformation they end up similar to a very powerful magic user, with particularly strong skills in mental magic. But they have lost their ability to feed like normal Vampires do even though they still need the same type of food. This is solved by drinking blood, as it is the closest tangible thing to human life force.
