Common Traits of Sundance Films
I believe everyone has their own opinion on the common traits that the films Sundance show. Though, in my opinion I see that the kinds of films that represented the Sundance brand is very artsy and vibrant colors. As well as, passionate and meaningful films that move us and make us get into our emotions. Another big trait I noticed was overcoming. I noticed a lot of films had stories over coming something and it seemed to tie in with Sundance being the first film festival of the year and having people overcome their struggles into getting their film premiered at this festival. So, these common traits went hand in hand on what the brand of Sundance was and how they had their type of style.
Learned From Film Pass Events
I learned a lot of valuable things from my Film pass events that connected with Sundance. The events were very informative with how the real world of film works. I took a lot of things away from these events like working hard and getting used to getting NO’s in the beginning, and not giving up on our dreams. I also learned that if we have passion for something the work will come out right if we have the right mindset. Another thing I learned from the events is that it’s not easy for everyone to get a film into Sundance and that it could takes years but it’s best to keep a positive attitude and a strong back bone to keep going for what you want to strive for.
Feeling About Technology
The feeling about technology at Sundance was in my opinion good. Technology was only used to know times and places to be during the festival, as well as getting on the E-Waitlist to get tickets for a specific film. I never saw technology used for other reasons other than for useful purposes. For the E-Waitlist, this was used for a very useful purpose for the festival. The E-Waitlist was a waitlist to allow anyone get tickets two hours in advanced for a specific film anyone could watch. Once we got placed on a number in the waitlist, we had to go in person to the theater to wait in the waitlist line. This helped people to either get tickets from the waitlist or if they did not get tickets, some random person there were giving away their tickets for free or for a price.
Sundance Culture
The culture/community of Sundance Film Festival in Park City is by far the best atmosphere I’ve ever been a part of. I was told by my professor beforehand that everyone we would meet and everyone who works there were going to be the nicest people ever. I thought that was a long shot but after having my own experience my mind changed. Everyone was so friendly and helped me get around when I was lost. I always saw smiles and just felt happy vibes from everyone. The culture at Sundance definitely is something special. I loved the community that I was surrounded by and how everyone had no fear in making conversation and just talking about personal things. It made me open up and be social. It was also so nice to see the community converse verbally rather than through technology. I think people should experience this culture/community that Sundance Film Festival in Park City because you leave in a happy mood and want to still act the same way the people do there.

The Streaming Effect
What I noticed from the films that already have distribution through streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon was that I found myself to be less interested in watching them because I knew they were going to come out soon. I had this thought that if I came to Sundance to watch film that will either not be shown for a while or never viewed coming out of Sundance then those movies would be my first priority to see. With the Taylor Swift documentary, Miss Americana, every was talking about it and how it was a must-see film. Though I decided to not fall into that category of people seeing it just to say I saw it before when it was going to be released the week after it was premiered at Sundance. I made sure that during my time at Sundance that I would make use of my time to watch films that were not already distributed.
The Hit or Miss - Us Kids & Black Bear
The films that I knew very little about but got in was Us Kids and Black Bear. The first film was a documentary on Parkland High School shooting. I never heard of it until an hour before one of my friends named Sammie mentioned it and said it was a must-see film. So, I got on the E-Waitlist and was able to get a ticket. Once the film was done, I was very pleased that my friend told me about it because I thought it was very moving and really opened my eyes to our rights about guns. In the end, I had Us Kids as my top favorite movie that I was able to see at Sundance. The other film I knew very little about but got in was Black Bear. I went to go watch this in the morning because I knew not a lot of people would go and watch this in the early morning. I also heard before that it was a great film and was a must see. After the film was done, I was very confused but did enjoy the film itself.
