do you have any advice about dealing with anti-feminism? I've been seeing a lot lately on my dash. I get super mad, then just plan depressed. Why all the "feminazi" crap? Ugh it really makes me upset. I just want equal rights, ya know? I think the anti-fem movement in and of itself is literally more proof that we need feminism even more. There are so many misconceptions.... AHHH. (Also, I know I always ask you fem questions! sorry! but I respect your opinion and all that good stuff so why not :)
Wow, I got back from class and had two new messages about anti feminism. Interesting. Ok, here’s my suggestion: unfollow people who are stupid enough to even think that “feminazi” is an acceptable phrase. Cut those people the fuck out of your life. You do not need that negative energy, and what you really don’t need is to have to undermine or ignore your own principles because these morons talk louder than you. A lot of people don’t understand feminism as a concept because they’re ignorant and/or uneducated and/or too close minded to understand other perspectives (yeah because feminism = death to men, right??? Right?????), but that doesn’t devalue feminism at all. It’s just another thing to have to fight against, something else to change. And the more that you speak out, the more you cut those people out of your life and rely on the people who do understand, the more that you structure your own choices around resisting the patriarchy, the less these misconceptions will matter. I know that isn’t exactly advice, but you can’t change the stupidity of the masses (even though I’m always trying to anyway).
If you don't mind me asking, what was the process you went through to get published? I'm a writer myself but I don't know how to start :( THANKS!
one of my favorite resources to use is the literary magazine directory compiled by everywritersresource. you can search/browse etc. or check out the rolling posts on the main page as more publications get added. they also have info about book publishers.
most journals/magazines now use submittable to handle their submission flow and setting up an account there is super easy! it also keeps track of all your submissions, which ones are received/in progress/accepted/declined/etc.
the most important thing to remember though is never give up. seriously, there are thousands of publications. there’s going to be someone somewhere who takes a chance on you. and tons of these publications are specifically interested in unpublished and unknown authors. so just believe in your art!
